Vermont Green FC wins second-consecutive USL League 2 championship

Vermont Green FC won again, and in style.

The club finished off its second-consecutive USL League Two championship, going undefeated in back-to-back campaigns.

Vermont Green FC defeated Flint City Bucks, 2-1, in the final at Atwood Stadium in Flint, Mich. Ryan Zellefrow netted the winner, scoring from the spot in the 76th minute. For his contribution, Zellefrow was named USL League 2 Final MVP.

After a scoreless first half, the Green went ahead on an own goal in the 62nd minute. Diego Rosas, playing on the right wing, put a cross into a dangerous area that a Flint defender knocked into his own net. Rosas led the club with 11 assists in 2026, a single-season club record. The Bucks equalized three minutes later.

Green substitute David Ajagbe was pulled down by Flint goalkeeper Steve Clark, allowing Zellefrow to convert from the spot.

Green coach Chris Taylor owns an unbeaten run that stretches across 42 matches, 35 of them being wins. He has never lost as the Green’s coach.

The Green are the eighth club to win multiple titles in the USL League 2’s 31-year history. They are the first back-to-back champions since the Cape Cod Crusaders in 2002-03. Green sporting director Adam Pfeifer played on those Crusaders teams.

Vermont Green FC has not lost since July 21, 2024. They finished the 2026 campaign with a 18-1-0 record, scoring 84 goals and conceding 14.
