Goal-starved Revolution expected to acquire Leeds United winger Jack Harrison this week

FOXBOROUGH — The Revolution’s lack of a finishing touch became apparent toward the conclusion of the pre-World Cup part of the MLS season, as they were blanked in two of three games. Their offensive struggles continued in a 0-0 tie with Toronto FC on Wednesday night.

Help, though, is on the way, with Leeds United winger Jack Harrison set to join the Revolution, according to a league source. The signing of Harrison, on loan to Italy’s Fiorentina last season, is expected to be completed this week.

Harrison, 29, performed for Manchester United junior teams before attending Berkshire School, where he developed into one of the country’s best young players. Playing alongside current Bermuda national teamers Justin Donawa and Zeiko Lewis, Harrison was part of dominant Bears and Black Rock FC teams.

Harrison played one season at Wake Forest, then became the No. 1 pick in the 2016 MLS Draft. After two seasons with New York City FC, he moved to Manchester City on a 4 million euro transfer. Harrison also performed for Middlesbrough and Everton in England.

Harrison earned a reputation as a dynamic left-side attacker under coaches such as Marcelo Bielsa, who guided Leeds to first place in the 2019-20 League Championship season; and in the Premier League under Bielsa, Sean Dyche, and Jesse Marsch.

The Revolution, who meet Atlanta United on Saturday at Gillette Stadium, have scored only twice — in a 2-1 win over Minnesota United — in their last four games. Leading scorer Carles Gil (five goals) nearly broke through against Toronto late in the first half, hitting the underside of the crossbar and having a shot saved by Luka Gavran.
