Trump compares UFC cage on White House lawn to the Eiffel Tower: ‘Maybe we’ll never, ever take it down’
President Trump is quite pleased with the giant, rollercoaster-resembling Ultimate Fighting Championship cage being built outside of the White House. So much so that he believes the “quite attractive” temporary structure, like Paris’ iconic Eiffel Tower, should perhaps become a permanent feature.

In a video posted to the president’s TikTok account Wednesday, Trump suggested that the octagon taking over the White House South Lawn may “never” come down, even after the UFC Freedom 250 event scheduled for June 14.
“The Eiffel Tower, 1889 it was built, it was supposed to be taken down immediately after the World’s Fair,” Trump said in the video while sitting in the Oval Office. “And then they said, ‘You know, we sort of like it.’”
“And you know, we’re building something in front of the White House that’s quite attractive to a lot of people,” he continued, referring to the UFC cage. “And I’m looking at it and maybe we’ll never, ever take it down.”

The Eiffel Tower was built in preparation for the World’s Fair and as a way to mark the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution. The 330-meter (roughly 1,082 feet) landmark was completed in just over two years. Engineers behind the tower were originally only granted a 20-year contract for the tower’s site, but that was extended in 1910. According to the Eiffel Tower’s tourism sight, it attracts nearly 7 million visitors a year.

The UFC cage at the White House, also known as “The Claw,” is roughly 90 feet tall and can hold around 5,000 spectators. There are no known plans for its use beyond the June 14 event, which also falls on Trump’s 80th birthday. The UFC and its parent company are covering all construction costs for the event, while the White House previously told the Globe it will be responsible to staffing and security costs.
Presidents have utilized the South Lawn for a multitude of events in the past, including the White House Easter Egg Roll and the Congressional Picnic. Both annual events took place in May this year.
Trump has launched several construction projects throughout Washington, D.C., some of which are intended to coincide with the country’s 250th anniversary celebrations. The White House and UFC are prompting the June 14 fight as “a once-in-a-generation celebration of the American fighting spirit.”
