Revolution trade Brayan Ceballos, the team’s top defender last season, to CF Montreal in cash deal
The Revolution announced a significant roster decision on Friday, as the club traded center back Brayan Ceballos to CF Montreal for a fee that could range up to $850,000 in general allocation money (GAM).

New England will get $500,000 in 2026 GAM, $250,000 in 2027 GAM, and $100,000 in conditional GAM. The Revolution also retain a “percentage of Ceballos’s sell-on rights,” per the club announcement of the deal.
Ceballos, 25, jumped to MLS from Brazilian club Fortaleza in late 2024. The Cali, Colombia, native started 29 games in 2025 and was voted the Revolution’s Defender of the Year in a season New England posted 10 shutouts. He had featured in nine of 15 matches in 2026, including as a substitute in Wednesday’s 0-0 draw against Toronto, when he came on for four minutes prior to the final whistle.
“We are grateful to Brayan for all his contributions during his time in New England. We wish him all the best in Montreal,” Revolution general manager and chief soccer officer Chris Tierney said in the club’s release. “As we look to continue improving the first team, generating this significant amount of allocation money will allow us to continue investing in the roster in the future.”

It’s an interesting choice from New England’s front office, as Ceballos was seen as one of the club’s best defenders. His status as a starter still appeared to be strong, though the recent emergence of 21-year-old Ethan Kohler as a viable partner to fellow center back Mamadou Fofana may have given the team confidence to deal Ceballos.
The Revolution (8-5-2, 26 points), fourth in Major League Soccer’s Eastern Conference, seem intent on making some midseason roster changes before the end of the secondary transfer window on Sept. 2. With Ceballos gone, the club is reportedly on the verge of signing winger Jack Harrison from Leeds United as a designated player.
New England continues its season on Saturday at home against Atlanta United at 7:30 p.m.
