The Sox won their seventh consecutive series after rallying for a 5-4 win over the A’s on Thursday with back-to-back home runs in the eighth inning from Wilyer Abreu and Willson Contreras.

Ranger Suarez will get nod for Friday night’s opener. The lefthander delivered four scoreless innings against the Blue Jays on Sunday in his return from the injured list after recovering from a left groin strain and an illness. He allowed four hits with six strikeouts on 64 pitches.

“[For] three weeks I never stopped throwing,” Suarez said. “I wasn’t surprised I had my command.”

The Dodgers will send righthander Edgardo Henriquez to the mound in what is expected to be a bullpen game.

Notes: In eight appearances (five starts) against the Dodgers, Suarez is 3-2 with 3.64 ERA. … The Red Sox are 20-3 since July 3 and 25-5 since June 25. … That matches the Sox’ best 30-game span in franchise history. The Sox also went 25-5 in 2018, 2004, 1993, 1955, 1950, 1948, 1942, 1915, and 1901. … The Dodgers are hoping to have Shohei Ohtani back in the lineup as designated hitter. A sore left knee and some right biceps tightness forced him out of the rotation since the return from the All-Star break, but not from the designated hitter spot until Thursday. … “The last couple days he’s been on base a lot more, so I think that’s been a good thing in one sense whereas the last part of the [recent] road trip he wasn’t,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. “So there might have been a little something to that.”
