Game 102: Blue Jays at Red Sox lineups and notes
The streak is over, but the Red Sox still find themselves very much in the playoff race.
They remain two games up (three in the loss column) for the final wild-card spot, and sit just a half-game back of the Guardians for the second spot. Here are the standings.
“All of us knew that it was going to end at some point. It just happened to end [on Wednesday],” said Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy. “The big thing is if we continue to play baseball that way, regardless of how many wins in a row, we’re going to win a heck of a lot more than we lose.”
After a day off, they will be back in action when they host the Blue Jays Friday night to open a three-game series.
Patrick Sandoval will get the start for the Sox. It will be the third start for the lefthander since returning from a two-year absence following Tommy John surgery. In his most recent start, he allowed five runs, four earned, on nine hits in five innings against the Rays on Saturday.
