Boston College (10-8), which won national titles in 2021 and 2024 during a run of seven straight berths in the championship game, was unseeded in this year’s tournament. Fifth-seeded Stony Brook (19-2), which knocked out first-time NCAA entrant Stonehill on Friday, raced to a 7-1 lead midway through the second quarter and led, 9-3, two minutes into the second half.

The Eagles battled back, with Kylee Colbert and Leominster’s Giulia Colarusso scoring twice during a 6-1 run that brought BC within a goal with 4:13 to play, but the Seawolves did not allow another shot to prevent the upset.

Colbert had four goals, while Colarusso — whose 40 tied Marissa White for the team lead — had two goals and two assists. Shea Dolce (Darien, Conn.), the IWLCA’s goalkeeper of the year, made seven saves.

Tufts men back into quarterfinals

Falling down, 3-2, in the opening seconds of the second quarter, the Jumbos (19-1) went on a 7-1 run into halftime, then outscored the Panthers, 13-2, in the third quarter. That included three goals in 32 seconds to make it 13-5 early in the period, and four more in the final 1:35 of the frame to erase all doubt.

The win secured a ninth straight trip to the NCAA quarterfinals for Tufts, which will face York (Pa.) next Saturday. The Jumbos were undefeated a year ago and this year only lost to Bowdoin — which hosts undefeated Hope in the quarters on Friday.

Middlebury (9-8) has lost all eight of its meetings with Tufts since the start of the 2023 season. It reached the third round by beating Dickinson, whom Tufts beat to win the national championship last May at Gillette Stadium.
