Globe Top 20 baseball poll: Surging St. Mary’s and Taunton

There’s no change at the top of this week’s Globe Top 20 baseball poll, with BC High holding firm to the No. 1 spot.

But there is plenty of movers and shakers inside. The Eagles are flying with five straight wins; Thursday’s clash against St. John’s (S) for the conference title was postponed one week.

Taunton surges up six spots to No. 3, with the Tigers rattling off seven wins in a row, including wins over No. 12 Franklin and No. 14 King Philip. Also climbing is No. 9 St. Mary’s, up six spots into the top 10 for the first time this year. The Spartans scored a signature extra-innings win over St. John’s, and clinched the Catholic Central title.

No. 11 Reading, No. 13 Milton, and No. 16 Hopkinton all move up. New entrants this week are No. 17 Cambridge, winners of seven straight, No. 19 St. John’s Prep, which took down No. 8 Catholic Memorial this week, and No. 20 Weymouth, which scored wins over No. 6 Walpole and No. 7 Braintree.
