Despite playing on short rest, the Red Sox managed to take the series opener against the Yankees, 6-3, Thursday night. They did it by scoring six unearned runs to snap a seven-game losing streak against AL East opponents and a four-game losing streak at home.

Caleb Durbin went 2-for-3, including a two-run homer in the fifth inning, one day after he dislocated his left pinkie finger diving into first base in the 8-6 loss to Colorado.

“It was like it didn’t even happen [Wednesday],” said Durbin. “I don’t know how it works, but thankful it felt better today.”

The Sox will look to keep it going when the teams meet again Friday night at Fenway Park.

Lefthander Payton Tolle will get the start for the Sox, while the Yankees will counter with righty Will Warren.
