Monday’s night’s 3-2 loss in Denver was … special. The Sox took a 2-0 lead into the ninth, only to see closer Aroldis Chapman blow it in just eight pitches, allowing four consecutive hits as the Rockies rallied for the win.
It was his first blown save since July 23, 2025, when the Red Sox were still able to come away with a 9-8 win at Philadelphia in 11 innings. Since then, Chapman had converted 29 consecutive save opportunities.
Righthander Sonny Gray will be on the mound when the Red Sox look to bounce back. The Rockies will counter with lefthander Sean Sullivan.

Stat of the day: Monday night was the first time this season the Red Sox lost after leading after seven innings. They had been 29-0 in those situations.
Notes: Gray allowed three runs over seven innings, but did not factor in the decision in last week’s 4-3 loss to the Blue Jays. … The righthander is in the last year of a three-year contract and said he would be “open for a conversation” about his no-trade clause. … Chapman had the second-longest active streak of consecutive saves before Monday’s meltdown, second to Atlanta’s Raisel Iglesias (33). … His streak was the third longest in franchise history since saves became an official statistic in 1969. He trailed only Tom Gordon’s 54 in a row from April 19, 1998, to May 31, 1999, and Koji Uehara’s 31 in a row from July 9, 2013, to June 6, 2014.
