Here’s your World Cup forecast for tonight’s Foxborough match

The Scotland invasion is set to take over Foxborough yet again, this time on Friday night in a match against Morocco, which has an exciting fanbase of its own.

If you’re headed to Gillette, or “Boston Stadium,” for this showdown, the weather is going to be as good as it gets for soccer in our backyard.

It’ll be a beautiful evening. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m., and temperatures will be hovering near 80 degrees for folks who are tailgating. During match play, we’ll see the thermometer slowly dip to the mid-70s, but honestly, not many of you will notice any difference.

Even better, humidity is going to be in check with dew points ranging comfortably in the mid-50s, with dry air settled well before fans arrive at the stadium.

We’ll also see the clouds steadily thin out through the evening. By the second half, we’ll likely have nearly clear skies. The great weather will make this marquee match one of the most electric of the tournament.

The wind won’t be too much of a factor either. A steady breeze of around 10 mph should be just enough to keep the air moving without affecting any crosses, long balls, or corner kicks, which is good news for both teams. There may be a couple of gusts that can reach 20 mph, though, but it won’t be troublesome.

If you asked anyone to design the ideal forecast for a World Cup match in New England in June, it would look a lot like what Foxborough is expected to see Friday night. So enjoy it. Whether or not you’ll be at the match or watching at a bar or neighborhood watch party, all of the attention will be on the pitch instead of the sky.

And hey, if you’re trying to see if ticket prices go down…they just might. My colleague Camilo waited until three hours before kickoff for Tuesday night’s match between Iraq and Norway to hop online and snag more-affordable tickets; prices dropped a couple of hundred dollars before he grabbed a pair.

Maybe Lady Luck will make the same thing happen on Friday night.
