Here’s your World Cup forecast for tonight’s match in Foxborough
The weather couldn’t be shaping up any better for Tuesday night’s World Cup showdown between Iraq and Norway. I’m sure Gillette, or should I say Boston Stadium, would have an electric atmosphere regardless of the weather, but after a stretch of peak summer heating during the day, it looks like we’ll have dry air settling in just in time for kickoff at 6 p.m., for near-perfect weather.
We’ll see temperatures hover around 80 degrees for those who get there early to tailgate, but then steadily drop to the upper 60s by the time tens of thousands make their way home.
It’s going to be a very comfortable night to catch a match with hardly any elements to be concerned about for Tuesday. Refreshing, dry air will lower humidity during the afternoon and evening across the region. Dew points, which are a measure of moisture in the air and often the best indicator of outdoor comfort, will tumble into the low 50s by the end of the match.
We haven’t had many nights where the air has been very comfortable during this so far small sample size of summer, so many folks will really enjoy it — Tuesday night will be pretty hard to beat with mostly clear skies.
Winds will be light, generally under 10 mph, meaning there won’t be much of a breeze to contend with for fans and players alike.

In short, this is about as close to a perfect weather forecast as you’ll find for a major outdoor sporting event in June in New England. There aren’t any heat, storm, or wind concerns. Just a warm start, a comfortable finish, and a fantastic night for some World Cup action. If you’re headed to the match, the worst of your headaches probably will be getting down there and into the stadium.
Friday night: Scotland vs. Morocco
The next match at Gillette is scheduled Friday night, when Scotland takes on Morocco, also at 6 p.m. Skies will likely be partly cloudy with temperatures slipping from the low 80s to the low 70s. There may also be a slight chance for a spot shower and a touch more humidity in the air.
But stay tuned, because the forecast details can change over the next day or two.
