Lexington boys and girls setting the pace at Division 1 track & field championships

The Lexington boys and girls surged to the lead after Day 1 of the MIAA Division 1 track & field championships Friday at Westfield State University.

After winning their first outdoor title in 2025, the Lexington girls sit comfortably in first place with 59 points.

With eight of 19 events scored for the girls and seven of 19 events scored for the boys, Lexington leads Wachusett Regional (30.5 points) and Newton North (27). On the boys’ side, the Minutemen are tied for first with Lowell at 38 points each. St John’s Prep (29) is third.

Senior Ainsley Cuthbertson continued her throwing dominance, taking first in the discus with (133 feet, 7 inches). Teammate Evelyn Radcliffe (107-6) was right behind in third.

The most exciting race on the boys’ side was the 200, with Xaverian’s Alex Todorov (21.5 seconds) narrowly beating out Lexington’s Bennett Siino (21.78).

Division 2 —At Merrimack College, the North Andover boys are taking advantage of the hometown advantage by crafting a sizable lead through seven events. The Scarlet Knights have 55 points, with Billerica (21) and Concord-Carlisle (19) second and third, respectively.

Aidan McGarry (55.43) nudged past Woburn’s Dawit Kulubya (55.57) in the 400 hurdles. North Andover’s Tripp Dowd leads all pentathlon competitors with 3,192 points.

In the girls’ competition, Westborough (33.5) has a slight lead over Algonquin (32 points) and Billerica (28) through eight events.

All eyes were on Westford Academy senior Abby Hennessy in the two-mile race, and she didn’t disappoint. Hennessy blazed to a 9:50.72 finish, not only setting a state record, but running the second-fastest time in the nation this year.

Division 5 — Eyeing repeats, the Weston boys (34 points) and the North Reading girls (29) seized the lead at the halfway point at Bridgewater State.

Weston’s Matthew Fitzgibbon (1 minute, 59.17 seconds) and Aarav Mehta (1 minute, 59.31 seconds) placed second and third, respectively, in the 800.

Through eight events on the girls’ side, second-place Cardinal Spellman (28) and third-place Weston (26) are right behind leader North Reading. Weston’s Solana Varela (1:00.22) won the 400 hurdles, and teammate Leksi Sullivan 92 minutes, 13.8 seconds) ran a personal best in the 800.
