The Bruins’ Charlie McAvoy has hearing for slash against Buffalo’s Zach Benson in playoff series
Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy had his in-person hearing with the NHL’s player safety department in New York Monday for his slash on Buffalo’s Zach Benson in Game 6 of their playoff series on May 1.

No decision on McAvoy’s case was announced, though DPS had a busy day, levying a pair of fines from the Sabres-Canadiens game Sunday night.
Buffalo’s Beck Malenstyn was fined for interference on Montreal goalie Jakub Dobes and Canadiens defenseman Arber Xhekaj was fined for roughing on Sabres forward Sam Carrick. Malenstyn was docked $3,515.63 and Xhekaj was hit for $3,385.42, both the maximum allowed under the collective bargaining agreement for their respective transgressions.

McAvoy has been suspended twice before by DPS.
In 2019, McAvoy served a one-game ban for an illegal check to the head of Josh Anderson in a playoff game against Columbus. In 2023, he was suspended four games for an illegal check to the head of Florida’s Oliver Ekman-Larsson.
