Bentley makes history by earning trip to Div. 2 College World Series, while Endicott returns to D3 Series

Stan DeMartinis III scored on a wild pitch to give the Bentley baseball team a 3-2 win over Molloy, sending the Falcons (44-15) to the NCAA Division 2 World Series for the first time in program history.

Tied 2-2 in the bottom of the ninth inning of Game 3 of the best-of-3 final series of the East Super Regional in Waltham, DeMartinis was hit by a pitch with the count full. Brendan Sencaj followed with a single, and then the runners moved to second and third when David VanderZouwen grounded out.

With Jackson Wilburn at the plate, Molloy reliever Jayden Patel threw wild in the dirt, the pitch careening off catcher Jeremy Taggart up the first-base line, and DeMartinis ran down the third-base line with both arms raised above his head.

Bentley starter Sam Belliveau was outstanding, tossing eight innings of four-hit, two-run ball, striking out eight while walking two. Keegan Antelman (5-0) earned the win by pitching a hitless ninth inning while striking out two.

The Falcons trailed 1-0 until the sixth inning, when Brendan Sencaj blasted a leadoff solo homer to tie it. The Falcons weren’t done, though, as Curt Heath followed with a single, Tommy Gonnan was hit by a pitch, and Jimmy Mitchell walked to load the bases. Bolton then hit into a fielder’s choice to score Mitchell and give the Falcons a 2-1 lead.

Molloy (42-12) scored the tying run in the seventh, on Jack Vallario’s RBI triple.

The Division 2 World Series begins on Friday in Cary, N.C.

Endicott returns to Div. 3 World Series

For the fourth straight season, Endicott advances to the NCAA Division 3 College World Series thanks to a 12-4 victory over host Salve Regina in a decisive Game 3 in Newport, R.I.

First baseman Cade Bernardo went 3 for 4 with two walks and three runs scored for the Gulls (40-11). Second baseman AJ Hamm (2-4, 4 RBIs) hit a two-run homer in the second, right fielder Brenden Walsh blasted a three-run shot in the fourth for his 12th of the campaign, and left fielder John Fusco doubled, knocked in three, and scored twice.

Evan Scully picked up the win by tossing five innings, giving up two runs on seven hits, striking out six while walking none. Colby Correia (3⅓ innings) and Jake Harmony (⅔) closed it out in relief.

The Division 3 World Series starts Friday in Eastlake, Ohio.

Salve Regina (40-8) forced a Game 3 by winning Game 2, 6-5, earlier Saturday. Third baseman Kyle Grabowski led Endicott’s nine-hit attack by going 2 for 5 with two RBIs and a run scored.
