He plugged his forthcoming book with a smirk, then flashed two peace signs after receiving his public scolding. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThis censure vote is not about antisemitism,\u201d he said. \u201cIt is an act of political theater, a partisan attack aimed at delegitimizing a Republican via social shaming.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span>Corcoran, who has a history of peddling racist and anti-immigrant tropes online, was censured for two posts in particular. In one, he called on the White House to deport a fellow lawmaker who is a naturalized US citizen. In another, he invoked the language of genocide to ridicule a Jewish colleague\u2019s karaoke invitation, writing that \u201ca final solution\u201d is needed for \u201ctheater kids in politics.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div><span>Get N.H. He has characterized his comment as a \u201cjoke\u201d that\u2019s now being \u201crecast as hate speech.\u201d On Thursday, he told colleagues he has no reason to apologize. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIt is the theater kids in this chamber who should apologize to me and to the people of New Hampshire for their failed policies and for their drama club antics,\u201d he said. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The Republican-controlled House, which has 400 seats, voted 288-54 in favor of the censure recommendation, then Deputy Speaker Steven D. Smith brought Corcoran to the front of the chamber and formally advised him of the admonishment. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Grill, who had previously recommended that Corcoran be expelled from the House, said she is \u201cvery pleased\u201d with the outcome of Thursday\u2019s vote, and proud to see her colleagues join in condemning Corcoran\u2019s misbehavior. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI am glad to put this incident behind us and get back to doing the important work we were elected to do,\u201d she added. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/bostonrelocationinsider.com\/?p=894\">Trump says it\u2019s \u2018not good timing\u2019 for him to attend his eldest son\u2019s wedding this weekend<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span>Those who have spoken in Corcoran\u2019s defense have argued the Legislature should not try to limit an elected official\u2019s speech. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Republican Representative Donald McFarlane of Orange, N.H., said people often say \u201cugly things\u201d in politics, and it\u2019s not clear what standard is being applied in Corcoran\u2019s case. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThe whole point of free political speech is that it protects the speech which shocks, which angers, unsettles, irritates, and yes offends,\u201d he said. \u201cThe speech everyone already approves of requires no protection at all.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The chamber\u2019s Democratic minority leader, Representative Alexis Simpson of Exeter, said this censure doesn\u2019t violate Corcoran\u2019s freedom of speech. He still has the right to say \u201chateful things\u201d online, she said. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cNo one is arresting him for his posts,\u201d she said. \u201cBut the House has freedom of speech, too.
