Red Sox principal owner John Henry dipped his toes into the looming MLB labor standoff in a speech Wednesday night, saying that \u201ccool heads have to prevail.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Citing the productive talks between professional golfers and the PGA Tour that Henry and investors in the Strategic Sports Group led two years ago, Henry said, \u201cI know for a fact that listening on both sides works. The Tour\u2019s moving forward. Baseball needs to do the same.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m hopeful that 2026 can mark the beginning of a new partnership in Major League Baseball.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The five-year-old collective bargaining agreement between MLB and the Players Association expires on Dec. 1.<\/span><\/p>\n

Barring an unexpected resolution before then, the owners \u2014 many of whom are believed to want a salary cap, which is a nonstarter with the union \u2014 are expected to lock out the players as soon as the contract ends. <\/span><\/p>\n
