KANSAS CITY, Mo. \u2013 Aroldis Chapman<\/b> continues to cement his place as one of the most dominant relievers of all time.<\/span><\/p>\n

On Monday, he flew through a perfect ninth inning in a 3-1 victory over the Royals for the 378th<\/sup> save of his career, a number that positioned him in sole possession of 10th<\/sup> place on the all-time list. Of the nine pitchers ahead of him, five are Hall of Famers.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI\u2019m happy, I\u2019m proud to be in that select group. I think that speaks about the consistency and the hard work I\u2019ve put in throughout my career,\u201d Chapman said through a translator. \u201c[But] the saves are not something I was chasing throughout my career. It\u2019s not something I\u2019m very aware of who the leaders are. I\u2019m going to keep going out there, performing and we\u2019ll see in a couple of years what happens.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The Sox are more excited about Chapman\u2019s immediate contributions than his place on all-time leaderboards. He\u2019s converted 26 save opportunities dating to last year, having allowed no runs and two hits (.026 opponent average) in such moments.<\/span><\/p>\n
