To put that into perspective,  has five, and  and  have one.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The headliner is D1 newcomer Notre Dame (Hingham). The Cougars won three consecutive state championships in Division 2 from 2022-2024, and lost in the state semifinals to Reading last spring.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span>This year, NDA (16-1) is more battle-tested than anyone, with wins over 11 teams in the Globe\u2019s Top 20 poll. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWe love playing against the fast, disciplined opponents; the perennial powerhouses,\u201d said NDA coach <b>Meredith McGinnis<\/b>. \u201cBecause that makes you a better team, and you have to embrace those challenges.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div><span>Get Starting Point<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>A guide through the most important stories of the morning, delivered Monday through Friday.<\/span><\/div>\n<div>\n<div><label>Enter Email<\/label><\/p>\n<div><button>Sign Up<\/button><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span>The top-ranked Cougars are looking forward to facing a new set of opponents in the state tournament. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>While NDA won\u2019t have the same level of familiarity with the teams in its path, McGinnis is more focused on ensuring execution than any level of scouting.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThere\u2019s nothing that we are focusing on specifically for opponents that are unfamiliar to us,\u201d McGinnis said. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>After graduating a phenomenal senior class last spring, the Cougars have a much younger squad. Yet they are on a 15-game winning streak, as seniors <b>Paige Foraste <\/b>and <b>Taylor Watts<\/b>, and junior <b>Sadie Lopez<\/b>, have done a lot to help fill the leadership void. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The best might still be yet to come. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI don\u2019t know that I could actually define what our best would be,\u201d said McGinnis. \u201cUnderstanding our potential, I think it\u2019s still to be determined.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>While NDA is the frontrunner, Westford \u2014 fourth in the power rankings and 12th in the Globe Top 20 \u2014 is hungry for more after falling to Concord-Carlisle in the state championship last spring. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The Ghosts (14-3) have won eight straight, including victories over Chelmsford and Dual County League nemesis C-C, the second and third-ranked teams in Division 1. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThis winning streak isn\u2019t new news. The team\u2019s been dialed in and playing competitive lacrosse since Day 1,\u201d said coach <b>Julie Olivier<\/b>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Westford graduated three-time All-American <b>Kassidy Carmichael<\/b>, who is playing lacrosse and ice hockey at Ohio State. But younger sister <b>Kiley<\/b>, a junior committed to Arizona State, has led the group to contention yet again. And Kassidy\u2019s influence has not left this season\u2019s squad. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cAll the girls on the team benefited from [Kassidy\u2019s] talent. She took the time to teach everyone, so I\u2019m not surprised that this team is playing how they\u2019re playing,\u201d Olivier said. \u201cThey learned from one of the best.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Olivier knows that this group has what it takes to win in a stacked tournament field. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI\u2019ve felt confident since we walked off the Babson campus last spring,\u201d said Olivier. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Outside of the top five, Franklin has serious potential to knock off any of the top contenders. Sitting at 10th in the power rankings, the Panthers (16-0) are the only undefeated team in D1. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Belmont (13-5), ranked 15th, also is a dark horse. Just one from tying its program record for wins entering the postseason, a two-game run to the Elite Eight would become the best season in program history. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Belmont had an 11-year postseason drought before the arrival of fourth-year coach <b>Dan O\u2019Brien<\/b>. He guided the Marauders back to the playoffs in his first season, and they have since finished top-15 in the power rankings three straight years. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThere\u2019s a lot of pride in terms of having moved the program forward and into some relevance,\u201d said O\u2019Brien. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Leading the way is senior Fairfield commit <b>Niamh Lesnik<\/b>, who is barely off the pace for the school record in points. The Marauders also have six other contributors on pace for 30 or more points this season. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/bostonrelocationinsider.com\/?p=681\">Sonny Gray\u2019s arm, Willson Contreras\u2019s bat all Red Sox need for 3-1 win over Royals<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIt\u2019s very obvious when teams have scouted, and I think that not being one-dimensional is so important,\u201d said Lesnik. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Heading into the postseason on a five-game win streak, capped off by a 13-12 win over Central Catholic, Belmont is playing its best down the stretch.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cKnowing that we can battle and beat strong teams was a really good boost going into the postseason,\u201d Lesnik said. <\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<h2>Quick sticks<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<p><span>\u25aa In Division 2, while usual suspects Reading, Walpole, Hingham, and Duxbury are all contenders, Dartmouth (12-2, 11th in power rankings) has emerged as a potential sleeper. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Seniors <b>Lily Gangi<\/b> (27 goals, 26 assists) and <b>Avery Smith<\/b> (32 goals) lead a balanced offense. Classmates <b>Arden Dennehy<\/b> and <b>Emma Joaquin<\/b>, plus juniors <b>Sydney Hart<\/b>, <b>Daley Calabrese<\/b>, and goalie <b>Letty Nelson<\/b> are the leaders defensively.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Coach <b>Nicole Simas<\/b> emphasized how the hot start has paid dividends throughout the season. Dartmouth is focused on changing the narrative and proving itself.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI am very proud of this team and how hard they have worked together all season long,\u201d Simas said. \u201cThey have developed a special bond, which makes the environment so fun to be a part of.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u25aa Nauset (13-5), ranked No. 15 in the power rankings, will try to bust some brackets in Division 3. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Merrimack-bound senior standout <b>Julia Kipperman<\/b> has 372 career goals. Senior <b>Norah Swanson<\/b> is a dependable goalie, and junior defenders <b>Nikki Tracy<\/b>, <b>Maddie Coccoro<\/b>, <b>Colby Shipman<\/b>, and <b>Jordan Nye<\/b> provide grit, hustle, and stability. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cOffensively, we have scrappy midfielders and freshmen starting at key positions,\u201d said coach <b>Heather Stevens<\/b>. \u201cTeamwork has been a major factor this season.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u25aa Nantucket (13-2) is No. 8 in Division 4 and eyeing a deep run under first-year coach <b>Kelly Brown<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI knew I would be working with a dedicated and talented group of players,\u201d Brown said. \u201cThese girls have exceeded my expectations.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Sophomore <b>Louisa Beni<\/b>(53 goals, 84 draw controls, 55 ground balls) is shooting above 73 percent, junior <b>Grace Hanlon<\/b> (35 goals, 45 ground balls) brings explosiveness and energy, and senior<b> Dylan Damian<\/b> (39 goals, 26 assists) is the offensive leader.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Senior <b>Myah Johnson<\/b>(37 caused turnovers, 43 ground balls), is the defensive leader, while junior goalie <b>Ella Douglas<\/b> has 77 saves and plays with a unique level of quickness.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Brown noted that about half of the team\u2019s goals are assisted, and the Whalers have more than 200 caused turnovers. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI am so proud of this team and just how coachable they have been throughout the past couple months,\u201d Brown said.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<h2>Games to watch<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<p><span><b>Tuesday, Swampscott at Masconomet, 4:30 p.m. <\/b>\u2014 Both teams will benefit from a final Northeastern Conference tune-up prior to the postseason.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><b>Tuesday, Medfield at Grafton, 5 p.m.<\/b> \u2014 The Warriors will face another test against a Grafton team that is capable of making a run in Division 2.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><b>Wednesday, No. 9 Franklin at No. 18 Bishop Feehan, 3:45 p.m.<\/b> \u2014 The Panthers, currently 10th in the Division 1 power rankings, have something to prove against fifth-ranked Feehan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><b>Wednesday, Hamilton-Wenham at No. 19 Newburyport, 4 p.m.<\/b> \u2014 Evie Bernard and the Generals will try to take down the Clippers and give themselves a boost in the power rankings.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><b>Wednesday, No. 4 Cohasset at No. 7 Sandwich, 4:30 p.m.<\/b> \u2014 It won\u2019t be easy, but Sandwich has a chance to make a major statement before entering the Division 4 tournament as the frontrunner.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/bostonrelocationinsider.com\/?p=679\">Alabamans to choose nominees for US Senate as voting maps in flux<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span><i>Correspondent Trevor Hass contributed to this story.<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In the MIAA power rankings, Division 1 has 12 teams with a rating above 8, while the other three divisions have seven combined. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":684,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[7],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-685","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-sport"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.6 -
