But outfielder Roman Anthony<\/b>, who has missed 11 weeks due to a partial tear of the ligament at the base of his right ring finger, has been left to watch the mid-year resurgence from afar.<\/span><\/p>\n

The 22-year-old is in Fort Myers, still unable to swing a bat. The roughly 1,500-mile separation is unwanted.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHe sees what\u2019s going on. He badly wants to be here,\u201d said Sox interim manager Chad Tracy<\/b>. \u201c[But] we have to make sure he\u2019s right when he comes back.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

How to get there? Tracy said the Sox want Anthony to be pain-free when he starts swinging, a threshold he hasn\u2019t reached.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re not going to resume hitting if there\u2019s still discomfort in the hand,\u201d said Tracy, who\u2019s been in touch with the outfielder. \u201cThat\u2019s a big piece of our lineup. It would be great to get him back. The whole point is we don\u2019t want our player, that player, to play injured, especially when it comes to swinging the bat. So, just continuing to get him to where he feels very confident in his mind that that hand feels good. That\u2019s our goal.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
