AJ remembers taking batting practice at Fenway and being around manager Terry Francona, but not much else. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/bostonrelocationinsider.com\/?p=5054\">Varsity News: Toughest All-Scholastic decisions and predicting next year\u2019s stars<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span>Luckily for Adrian Beltr\u00e9 Jr., he got a chance to create another Fenway Park memory when he recently participated in the Cape Cod Baseball League\u2019s Fenway Day scouting showcase.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span>\u201cDefinitely a blessing to be back here and share a field that my dad used to play on,\u201d said Beltr\u00e9 Jr., who\u2019s playing for the Orleans Firebirds this summer after his sophomore season at the University of San Diego. \u201cIt\u2019s definitely a cool experience.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>But what\u2019s even better? He missed most of last season with an injury, but had been named to the West Coast Conference\u2019s all-freshman team in 2025 after hitting .258 with 28 RBIs and four home runs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Last summer, he played in the Northwoods League, a high-level wooden-bat baseball league in the Great Lakes region. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The Fenway outing marked the first time Adrian Beltr\u00e9 watched his son on the field in a major league park. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIt\u2019s really cool,\u201d said Beltr\u00e9. \u201cObviously his dream is that he wants to be a ballplayer. He\u2019s pursuing that dream, and now he\u2019s going through the steps to get him there.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><span>Beltr\u00e9 was there every step of the way, and put a ball in his son\u2019s hand early, but he wanted him to be his \u201cown person.\u201d Beltr\u00e9 Jr. could play just about any sport, excluding football, but was drawn to baseball. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cSince he was little, he just liked it,\u201d said Beltr\u00e9. \u201cHe chose baseball, and so far he\u2019s put in a ton of effort into it. But otherwise, it\u2019s up to his son to make the adjustments.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cHe never wanted to force baseball on me or tell me how to do things,\u201d said Beltr\u00e9 Jr. \u201cIt was always me going to him, and me molding who I am as a baseball player. So first and foremost, he let me get my own identity in the game.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Sure, there\u2019s a ton Beltre Jr. could learn from having a member of the 3,000-hit club in the house, but such space allowed AJ  to grow into his own person and player. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In fact, outside of his throwing mechanics, Beltre said he doesn\u2019t see many similarities between his game and that of his son. He sees AJ as more of a contact hitter, with more discipline as well.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cHe has potential to get more power into his swing, [which] comes with time,\u201d said Beltr\u00e9. \u201cBut I think he has the potential to do whatever he wants to do.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>What did seem to rub off on Beltr\u00e9 Jr. is his father\u2019s characteristics.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cHe\u2019s just a funny guy to be around. Just a good dude, high energy, just makes it enjoyable to be at the ballpark every day,\u201d said Orleans teammate Rowan Kelly. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Beltr\u00e9 Jr. may have yet to fall onto his knees while hitting a homer or move the on-deck circle, but he almost hit an umpire on a bat flip during the college season. There\u2019s plenty of room for him to fill his father\u2019s shoes in the fun category.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>AJ still has another year before draft eligibility.
