She saidthe two had been texting back and forth and that Platner had \u201ctaken something that I said as an invitation [to come over], and that\u2019s not how I meant it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>She said Platner did not respond to a follow-up message, arrived at her home a half hour later, and entered through her unlocked front door.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Racicot said that Platner jumped on top of her andshe quickly realized he was acting \u201cdifferent,\u201d adding that he smelled of alcohol and appeared \u201cheavily intoxicated.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>(Platner has previously acknowledged struggling with alcohol abuse, which he has characterized as self-medication stemming from his combat service and post-traumatic stress disorder.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Racicot said her protests seemed to fall on deaf ears.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThat blank stare is kind of like a photographic memory that I still have of that night,\u201d she said. \u201cThat was me recognizing what the situation was. It wasn\u2019t just, \u2018hey someone showed up, I\u2019m going to tell him to go home.\u2019 He was heavily intoxicated, had intentions with me, and wasn\u2019t listening when I said no.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<h3>Platner knew on some level he lacked consent, she said<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span>Racicot suggested that, even in his intoxicated state, Platner showed glimpses \u201cin moments\u201d that he was awarehe was doing something wrong.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIt was this weird mix of &#8230; coming to, and [then] falling back into that drunken, \u2018I don\u2019t know what I\u2019m doing\u2019 state,\u201d she said. \u201cHe would apologize in those moments, and then go back to doing what he was doing.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>As the situation escalated, Racicot said she explicitly told Platner to stop. At one point, she said, she remembered swatting away his hand and telling him not to touch her.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIt got to the point where I was like, \u2018I feel like I\u2019ve said this enough times. He\u2019s not listening to me, he\u2019s not hearing me,\u2019\u201d she said, adding that \u201cI don\u2019t believe that you can think that that scenario is consensual.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<h3>She said she feared for her safety<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span>Once she recognized that Platner was drunk and wasn\u2019t listening to her, \u201cI knew in that moment I wasn\u2019t safe,\u201d she said. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Platner has alsofaced allegations from another former girlfriend that he grabbed her forcefully during their relationship, although she said he never hit or punched her. He acknowledged \u201cnot being a good boyfriend\u201d but denied acting violently towards his former partners.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Racicot said that although her previous encounters with Platner had been consensual, she knew that she wouldn\u2019t be able to fight back physically.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/bostonrelocationinsider.com\/?p=4491\">Trump administration guts efforts to prevent gun violence, suppressing reports<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201dI don\u2019t know what this person is capable of,&#8221; she recalled thinking. \u201cEven people you know for years, you don\u2019t know the depth of what they\u2019re capable of. I didn\u2019t want to find out how unsafe, how harmed I could be that night.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>She said she chose not to resist the alleged attack \u201cfor my safety.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cComplying is not consenting,\u201d she added. \u201cIt\u2019s getting it over with.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<h3>She said she has not talked to Platner since<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span>After the alleged rape, Racicot said she chose to let Platner sleep at her home rather than call the police or force him to drive home while intoxicated. But in the morning, she said she was shocked when Platner woke up and went to put his arm around her.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI was like, \u2018whoa,\u2019\u201d she said. \u201c[It was me] realizing that this person doesn\u2019t know that what happened isn\u2019t OK.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Racicot told him to leave and said she never wanted to speak to him again. Platner left without arguing or asking her any questions about the night before, she said. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cHow can somebody that you\u2019ve been in some type of a relationship with for this long tell you to never speak to [them] again about something you did, and you don\u2019t even ask [them] what you did?\u201d she said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Racicot said that after a few weeks, she sent Platner a final message, which he did not respond to, and then blocked his phone number and social media.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThis is a person I have known and have trusted and have had [a]very consensual relationship all along,\u201d she said. \u201cUntil it wasn\u2019t. That was a really hard thing to understand.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<h3>She said she agrees with his politics<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span>Platner\u2019s campaign has suggested that previous accusations against him have been politically motivated. Racicot, however, said she \u201ccouldn\u2019t disagree more\u201d with that notion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201dI\u2019m not mad at anyone who has voted for him all along,&#8221; she said. \u201cIf he wasn\u2019t who he was, I would be voting for him as well.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Racicot, who said she was a Democrat, added that she \u201creally agree[d]\u201d with Platner\u2019s politics, and that his platform of change resonated with her and many of her neighbors.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI like the things that he speaks about,\u201d she said. \u201cThey\u2019re important to people, [and] I\u2019m one of those people.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>By coming forward with her allegations, she feared undermining his campaign, she said. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The alleged attack was previously alluded to in a New York Times story published days before last month\u2019s Democratic primary, which Platner won overwhelmingly won his closest competitor, Governor Janet Mills, suspended her campaign. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>But prominent Democrats are now calling on him to drop out of the race before a filing deadline next week, which would allow another candidate to replace him on the November ballot.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Racicot stopped short of urging people not to vote for Platner but said her story should \u201cgive a clearer picture of who he is and the type of past that he has.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI just think it\u2019s fair to the democratic process to let people know who they\u2019re voting for,\u201d she said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/bostonrelocationinsider.com\/?p=4489\">NATO unveils billions in arms deals to prove its firepower as Trump again demands Greenland<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;He was heavily intoxicated, had intentions with me, and wasn\u2019t listening when I said no,&#8221; Jenny Racicot said in an interview with Jake Tapper. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":4493,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[2],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-4494","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-politics"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.6 -
