He wasn\u2019t doing much as a righthander, so they told him to stick with swinging lefthanded.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/bostonrelocationinsider.com\/?p=3945\">Game 84: Nationals at Red Sox lineups and preview<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span>Early this month, when chief baseball officer <b>Craig Breslow<\/b> and interim manager <b>Chad Tracy<\/b> informed Seigler they were sending him back to the minors, he made a suggestion: Let him try again.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The Red Sox gave him the go-ahead, which helped bring Seigler to where he is now, starting at second base for a 10th consecutive game Monday night in a 6-3 win against the Nationals.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span>His switch back to switch-hitting has been key, Seigler said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cObviously, I want to be in there every day. I mean, everybody does,\u201d said Seigler, who went 2 for 3. \u201cAnd I think me going down there [to Triple-A Worcester] and getting some reps righty definitely helped me confidence-wise, feel-wise attacking lefties again.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div><span>Get Starting Point<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>A guide through the most important stories of the morning, delivered Monday through Friday.<\/span><\/div>\n<div>\n<div><label>Enter Email<\/label><\/p>\n<div><button>Sign Up<\/button><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span>Overall, he has performed well in a small sample, batting .333 with a .405 on-base percentage and .515 slugging rate across 11 games entering the day.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Against righthanders (as a lefty batter), those numbers were .296\/.345\/.481.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Against lefthanders (as a righty batter), he was 3 for 6 with a double, two walks, and no strikeouts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIt speaks for itself,\u201d Seigler said. \u201cI feel comfortable with that. I feel really confident. I\u2019m just glad that they also feel confident in me and are trusting me to just go out there and get some righty at-bats.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>He also is a switch-thrower, doing so righty as an infielder and lefty as an outfielder. He brushes his teeth with his left hand and writes with his right hand.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Seigler\u2019s pitch to his Sox bosses: The keen eye and solid swing decisions he showed as a lefthander would carry over to the other side of the plate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThey were fine with [resuming switch-hitting], as long as it didn\u2019t mess with my lefty swing,\u201d he said. \u201cI feel confident in my ability to see pitches really well, and I know I have really good bat-to-ball [skills]. I know I don\u2019t swing out of the zone a lot, so I told them that. I told them, I got great bat-to-ball from both sides. I know I do.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/bostonrelocationinsider.com\/?p=3943\">Ismael Saibari\u2019s shootout winner sends Morocco past the Netherlands, in earliest Cup exit for the Dutch<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIt means a lot from a confidence standpoint, and I\u2019m just glad that they trust me to go out there and dominate lefties like I know I can.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<h3>Butera makes Fenway return<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span>First-year Nationals manager <b>Blake Butera<\/b> had the opportunity to play a few games at Fenway Park when he was a Boston College infielder from 2012-15.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>He also saw plenty of games as a fan during his time at Chestnut Hill and while playing in the Cape Cod League.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Still, there was some emotion when he arrived at the ballpark early Monday afternoon.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThis is pretty awesome,\u201d Butera said. \u201cIt\u2019s all a blur when you go to school here, and you\u2019re 18-22 years old, and then realizing I hadn\u2019t been back here in a while.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<div><span>Related<span>: <\/span><\/span>From January: It was a surprise when the Nationals hired 33-year-old Blake Butera to be their manager \u2014 except to those who knew him at BC<\/div>\n<p><span>Butera goes back a long way with the Sox. His father, Barry, was an outfielder in the system from 1977-80. That led Blake to become a fan of the team.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><b>Barry Butera<\/b> had dinner with 95-year-old <b>Joe Morgan<\/b>, his Triple-A manager, on Sunday night. They called Blake as the Nationals were arriving at their hotel.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI got to talk to Joe, and he was excited,\u201d Blake said. \u201cMy dad asked him, \u2018So are you a Nationals fan or a Red Sox fan for this series?\u2019 And he said, \u2018I\u2019m just going to watch the game.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<h3>Sandoval\u2019s next step(s)<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span><b>Patrick Sandoval<\/b>, who had Tommy John surgery two years ago and a series of setbacks since, will make a sixth and potentially final rehab start with Double-A Portland on Saturday. He is due to throw about 70 pitches (five innings). That will be the 30th day of his rehab assignment. Pitchers are allowed 30 days but teams can apply for up to three 10-day extensions (which also need to be approved by the player). So the Sox are approaching decision time on Sandoval but don\u2019t necessarily need to make a call imminently \u2026 <b>Jovani Mor\u00e1n<\/b> (left elbow inflammation) will make another rehab appearance, probably his last, on Wednesday, Tracy said \u2026 <b>Nick Sogard<\/b> (right oblique strain) is due to start playing in the minors Wednesday or so, per Tracy \u2026 The Nationals called up righthander <b>Riley Cornelio<\/b> and lefthander <b>Carson Palmquist<\/b> from Triple-A.
