North sweeps Agganis hoops<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span>The North teams won both the boys\u2019 and girls\u2019 Agganis All-Star basketball games at Lynn Classical on Saturday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Peabody\u2019s <b>Olivia Gaynor<\/b> led the North girls to a 63-50 win with a team-high 12 points. North team MVP <b>Celia Neilson<\/b>, of Bishop Fenwick, added 8 points. Archbishop Williams\u2019s <b>Jenna Mishou<\/b> was named South MVP after matching Saugus\u2019s <b>Peyton DiBiasio<\/b> with a game-high 13 points.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Masconomet\u2019s <b>Jimmy Farrell<\/b> scored all 13 of his points in the second half to earn MVP honors and lead the North to an 83-59 victory. Winchester\u2019s <b>Dawson English<\/b> added 10. The South was led by MVP <b>Shyheim Babb<\/b> of Lynn Classical (12 points) and North Andover\u2019s <b>Angel Sanchez<\/b> (13). <\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<h2>2. Coaching corner<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span>\u25aa Coach <b>Kyle McCarthy<\/b> is leaving Duxbury, his alma mater, to take over the wrestling program at Scituate. After nearly 20 years and more than 200 wins with the Duxbury wrestling program \u2014 he was its only All-State champion before graduating in 2002 \u2014 McCarthy will make the move across the Patriot League. McCarthy, who was a three-year starter at Sacred Heart, led Duxbury to a pair of sectional titles. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>A Scituate resident and teacher at Gates Middle School, he will also serve as an assistant football coach for the Sailors. He spent the last five seasons as Duxbury\u2019s freshman football coach. <\/span><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p><span>\u25aa In an opposite move, <b>Kate Abromovitch<\/b> is returning to her alma mater as the girls\u2019 basketball coach at Haverhill. Abromovitch (class of \u201889) was the first 1,000-point scorer in Haverhill history, leading the Hillies to a pair of state titles (\u201987, \u201889) and earning All-America honors. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>She started her coaching career at Fairfield, where she also scored nearly 1,500 points, and was an assistant at Fordham before coaching at the high school level for a decade in Connecticut. She is a member of the Haverhill and Fairfield halls of fame. <\/span><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p><span>\u25aa Assistant <b>Austin Davis<\/b> has been promoted to take over the Gloucester boys\u2019 basketball program. Davis, who works as a sales and marketing specialist for a seafood company, was the Fishermen\u2019s leading scorer as a senior in 2013-14. <\/span><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p><span>\u25aa On Wednesday, King Philip announced <b>Derek Phinney<\/b> as its new athletic director. Phinney spent the last four years as AD at Millis, and will take over for longtime KP AD <b>Gary Brown<\/b> starting next week. In addition to working his way up from paraprofessional to athletic director over 20 years at Millis, Phinney has served as a general manager for a junior hockey program. He has degrees from UMass and Framingham State <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThe King Philip Regional School District\u2019s athletic programs have taken great strides over the past decade,\u201d superintendent <b>Dr. Rich Drolet<\/b> said in a statement. \u201cWe\u2019re confident that Derek Phinney will help to continue and foster the district\u2019s previous efforts to bolster our programs and also lead our athletics department with vision, collaboration, resiliency, and excellence into the future.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u25aa Former standout Haverhill diver <b>Derek Peabody<\/b> has been hired as an assistant diving coach at New Hampshire. A four-time All-New England honoree at Haverhill, he has coached at the high school and college levels, including at Keene State, his alma mater. <\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<h2>3. College commitments<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span>\u25aa Tabor junior <b>Kaiden Drinkwater<\/b> announced his commitment to Coastal Carolina, where he will reunite with quarterback <b>Osiris Lopez<\/b>, who he played with at Leominster as freshmen in 2022. Drinkwater, a 6-foot-2-inch, 180-pound wide receiver, is rated as a three-star recruit by 247Sports. The All-ISL and All-NEPSAC midfielder also plays for the FC Stars and recently played for Trinidad &amp; Tobago\u2019s youth national team. <\/span><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p><span>\u25aa Austin Prep sophomore <b>Ellie Poulos<\/b> is headed to Holy Cross to play women\u2019s soccer. The former Montrose star, a three-time All-NEPSAC selection and two-time first team All-IGC pick, also plays for FC Stars.<\/span><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<h2>4. Transfer station<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span>\u25aa Quarterback <b>Jace Lyons<\/b> announced on social media that he will be leaving Waltham to play at Rivers and reclassifying to the Class of 2028. The 6-2, 188-pounder started his high school career at Arlington Catholic. <\/span><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p><span>\u25aa Wheaton freshman <b>Brayden Lewis<\/b>, a Hopedale graduate, announced he is transferring to Northeastern to continue his baseball career. He played in 27 games, hitting .322 with nine homers, 28 RBIs, 34 runs, and 26 steals. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u25aa Colby sophomore <b>Matt Mahoney<\/b>, a Lincoln-Sudbury gradaute, is also transferring to Northeastern baseball. He went 4-2 with a 2.10 ERA in 25\u2154 innings, striking out 29 and walking 12. <\/span><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p><span>\u25aa UMass freshman <b>Randen May<\/b>, a Bishop Feehan graduate from West Bridgewater, announced he is joining the baseball team at Bentley. In 14 games, most as a pinch runner, he stole two bases and scored three runs.<\/span><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p><span>\u25aa Saint Anselm freshman <b>Xavier Cora<\/b>, a Leominster graduate from Fitchburg, is transferring to Davidson with four years of eligibility remaining. The 5-10, 190-pound linebacker was a Division 1 All-State selection in high school. <\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<h2>5. College corner<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span>\u25aa Auburn\u2019s <b>Caroline Olsen<\/b>, a Sherborn native, became the first freshman to earn the SEC Fences Rider of the Year award, and only the second Auburn freshman to be named NCEA Fences Rider of the Year. She was named first team All-American in fences and second team All-American on the flat, while being named SEC Freshman Rider of the Year in both disciplines. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Her season featured four Most Outstanding Performer Awards, including one in the SEC Championship semifinals, an undefeated record in seven meets, and finishing as one of six freshman in Auburn history with 20 or more wins. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u25aa Williams senior <b>Jack Wagner<\/b>, a St. John\u2019s Prep graduate from Melrose, was named to the Intercollegiate Rowing Coaches Association Division 3 All-American second team. Wagner was also named NESCAC All-Conference first team after competing on the first varsity eight boat in every regatta this spring, finishing third at the International Rowing Association National Championship. <\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<h2>6. Masters joins EYCBL<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span>Masters Academy International will become the first New England member of the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League when it opens its doors in Stow this fall.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The new sports-centric school will become one of 15 in the country competing in the Nike EYBL, which boasts nearly 200 active NBA players as alumni. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThe Nike EYBL immediately places our student-athletes on one of the biggest stages in high school basketball,\u201d said Masters coach <b>Jason Smith<\/b> in a statement. \u201cOur players will have the opportunity to compete against elite talent from across the country, challenge themselves against some of the nation\u2019s premier programs, and gain exposure to college coaches and NBA scouts.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Three of the top four picks in this week\u2019s NBA Draft \u2014 Brockton\u2019s AJ Dybantsa at No. 1, Cam Boozer at No. 3, and Caleb Wilson at No. 4 \u2014 competed in the EYBL. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cBeing selected to join the Nike EYBL represents the highest level of scholastic basketball in the country,\u201d said <b>John Carroll<\/b>, Masters\u2019s director of basketball, in a release. \u201cEvery game, every event, and every opponent presents an opportunity for our student-athletes to compete against elite talent and measure themselves against the best programs in the nation.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/bostonrelocationinsider.com\/?p=3749\">New England could soon get its first-ever surf park.
