The Bruins also surrendered the 2028 conditional first-round pick they obtained from the Panthers when they dealt Brad Marchand to Florida at the March 2025 trade deadline. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>If that conditional pick ends up being in the top 10, the Bruins have the option of keeping the pick and instead settling their outstanding Peterka debt by sending their 2029 first-rounder (unprotected) to Utah.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span>The Munich-born Peterka, 24, has a long history of playing for various German national teams, including their Olympic team earlier this year at the Games in Milan-Cortina <\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div><span>Get Starting Point<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>A guide through the most important stories of the morning, delivered Monday through Friday.<\/span><\/div>\n<div>\n<div><label>Enter Email<\/label><\/p>\n<div><button>Sign Up<\/button><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span>Peterka and fellow German Marco Sturm no doubt crossed paths in Deutschland, though Peterka\u2019s play on the international stage began just as Sturm vacated his roles with the German national squad infrastructure and returned to North America as an assistant coach with the Kings.<\/span><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p><span>Given the cost of sending the Mammoth the pair of first-round picks, the Bruins will be sure to plug him directly into their top six forwards, where they are expected to lose Viktor Arvidsson to free agency on Wednesday. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Assuming Arvidsson is gone, Peterka would be natural to move right into that spot on the No. 2 line, with Pavel Zacha at center and Casey Mittelstadt, his former Sabres teammate, on the opposite wing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In his Wednesday predraft media briefing in Brighton, Bruins general manager Don Sweeney noted his desire to improve on speed and skill, with an emphasis on adding goal scoring. Peterka reached the 25-goal plateau each of the last three seasons, the first two of those with the Sabres and then this past season, his first (and last), with the Mammoth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>It was this time last year when the Sabres, unwilling to meet Peterka\u2019s salary request as a restricted free agent about to exit his entry-level contract, moved him to Utah for forward Josh Doan and defenseman Michael Kesselring. Follow live updates.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span>Peterka appeared in all 82 games with Utah in 2025-26, recording 25 goals and 22 assists for 47 points. The 6-foot, 189-pound winger posted 27 goals and 41 assists for a career-high 68 points with Buffalo in 2024-25. In 2023-24 season, he tallied a career-high 28 goals and 22 assists for 50 points with the Sabres. His career line: in 320 games, totaling 92 goals and 105 assists for 197 points. <\/span><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p><span>Peterka was named to Germany\u2019s 2026 Olympic team, recording one goal and three assists for four points in five games. He has represented Germany at three IIHF World Championships (2021, \u201923, \u201924) and two IIHF World Junior Championships (2020, \u201921). He was named best forward and to the tournament\u2019s All-Star Team at the 2023 World Championship as Germany won a silver medal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The Bruins confirmed the Peterka acquisition via a news release immediately after Bettman announced it at KeyBank Center in Buffalo,.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>By late in Round 1, the Bruins had yet to confirm another rumor, persistent through the afternoon, that Kevyn Adams was to join the club in a front office\/player personnel role.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Adams, the Bruins Round 1 pick (No. 25) in 1993, in recent years was GM of the Sabres. After making a series of prudent, sometimes complex moves in the Sabres corner office, Adams was fired as GM in December and replaced by Jarmo Kekalainen, another one-time Bruins prospect.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Sweeney said Wednesday, following a Globe question about why Jamie Langenbrunner recently left the front office, that an announcement would be made in the coming days about bringing in an outside hire.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI am going to add from the outside,\u201d noted Sweeney. \u201cI think that\u2019s also healthy to continue to bring people in with a different perspective, a new voice, and seeing things differently than maybe we are.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Adams, 51, was fired just as the Sabres went on a torrid run that lifted them to a first-place finish in the Atlantic Division and Eastern Conference. His fingerprints were all over that roster, but he was nowhere to be seen when they beat the Bruins in Round 1 of the playoffs and then bowed out in a Round 2 loss in seven games to the Canadiens.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Adams, who grew up in the Buffalo suburbs, never played for the Bruins following his graduation from Miami-Ohio.
