Addressing the media at his introductory press conference as Harvard\u2019s men\u2019s hockey coach, Rob Rassey acknowledged that the news hadn\u2019t quite sunk in until Wednesday night. That\u2019s when he got a call from Bill Cleary, the legendary former athletic director, coach, and player offering his congratulations on Rassey\u2019s return to the program.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHearing Coach Cleary\u2019s excitement, passion, and energy, and welcoming me back here, and how excited he was for me to be the next head coach at Harvard is incredibly special,\u201d said Rassey, who served as a Crimson assistant coach from 2013-19. \u201cGetting to know Coach when I was here, and hearing him talk to me about being the next head coach at Harvard, where he was such a legend, really it all sunk in at that moment.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Rassey, 41, replaces Ted Donato, who stepped down after 21 seasons in May. In his six seasons on Donato\u2019s staff. Harvard made four NCAA Tournament appearances and, in 2017, captured the Beanpot and ECAC championship en route to reaching the Frozen Four.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
