PROVIDENCE \u2014 Rhode Island Governor Daniel J. McKee has issued his first veto of the year, rejecting to create an energy-use reporting requirement for large buildings and campuses.<\/span><\/p>\n

The group Climate Action RI issued a statement Wednesday, saying it is \u201cdeeply disappointed\u201d in McKee\u2019s veto and calling for the General Assembly to reconvene to override the veto. <\/span><\/p>\n

The group noted the veto comes soon after Climate Action RI endorsed McKee\u2019s main opponent in September\u2019s Democratic primary, former CVS executive Helena Buonanno Foulkes. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cWhile we cannot know the governor\u2019s motivation for issuing this veto, it is difficult not to question whether politics played a role,\u201d the group said.<\/span><\/p>\n

In his veto message, McKee said he wants to improve building energy efficiency, but he said the legislation conflicts with a plan he proposed in the state budget that would begin by reporting energy use at state-owned buildings.<\/span><\/p>\n
