Is veteran center Pavel Zacha trade bait or a long-term hold for the Bruins?<\/span><\/p>\n

The answer at this hour: possibly somewhere in between.<\/span><\/p>\n

Bruins general manager Don Sweeney closed out his news conference Wednesday, ahead of the NHL Draft (Friday-Saturday), by saying he\u2019d like to be \u201cproactive\u201d in signing Zacha, 29, to a contract extension.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, Sweeney also framed comments about Zacha by noting the league\u2019s ongoing \u201ctrade noise\u201d and made it sound like other clubs will ask \u2014 or have asked \u2014 if he would be willing to part with the 6-foot-4-inch pivot.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t control those things,\u201d said the GM. \u201cTeams are going to ask me.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Zacha was the club\u2019s most productive (30-35\u201365) center last season and is about to enter the final season of the four-year, $19 million deal he signed here in January 2023. He can be dealt to all but eight of the 31 other teams in the league, per his contract restrictions. <\/span><\/p>\n
