You know the one.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span>Wearing a Scotland Women\u2019s National Team jersey, Mayor Michelle Wu on Thursday signed a letter of intent to establish Boston and Glasgow, Scotland as \u201csister cities\u201d next year, with the goal of extending the cities\u2019 trans-Atlantic partnership beyond this year\u2019s World Cup. <\/span><\/p>\n<div><span>Related<span>: <\/span><\/span>\u2018No Scotland, no party!\u2019 Boston embraces Tartan Army\u2019s thirsty World Cup soldiers<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span>Wu made the announcement Thursday at The Haven, a Scottish restaurant in Jamaica Plain, where she was greeted by a hearty contingent of Tartan Army members \u2014 as the national team\u2019s fans are known \u2014 as well as David Clay, the British Consul General to New England. The Scottish fans chanted \u201cNo Scotland, no party,&#8221; and then, \u201cNo Wu, no party,\u201d as Wu signed the letter. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Over the next year, Wu said the two cities\u2019 leaders will finalize details of how they will invest resources and collaborate on shared initiatives \u2014 likely related to innovation, higher education, climate, or arts and culture.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The leaders will formalize the agreement when Glasgow\u2019s Lord Provost, Jacqueline McLaren, visits Boston next April for \u201cTartan Day,\u201d Wu said. With 650,300 people, Glasgow is Scotland\u2019s most-populated city.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>An estimated 50,000 Scottish soccer fans arevisiting Boston for the World Cup, draining beer kegs at the city\u2019s bars and liquor stores, raising the roof at a Red Sox game at Fenway Park on Sunday, and leaving orange traffic cones on statues. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWe wish we could keep you all forever,\u201d Wu said Thursday. \u201cThis kind of agreement will make sure that you always see Boston as a home base. He called the Boston-Glasgow partnership \u201camazing\u201d and \u201cvery appropriate.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThis is cemented history,\u201d MacGillivray said. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>With the United States\u2019 250th anniversary approaching and the \u201cthe whole fervor and the vibe [of the World Cup festivities] &#8230; it\u2019s been absolutely awesome,\u201d he said. \u201cThe Scots have loved Boston, Boston\u2019s loved the Scots.
