\u201cWe\u2019ve got McGinn! Super John McGinn! I just don\u2019t think you understand …\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Those words have followed the blaring of bagpipes and rustling of kilts all over Boston this week, and they finally reached the pinnacle of global soccer on Saturday, ringing around Gillette Stadium at a World Cup match between Scotland and Haiti.<\/span><\/p>\n

And the song didn\u2019t die down when McGinn opened the scoring in the 28th minute \u2014 Scotland\u2019s first goal at a World Cup in 28 years \u2014 with what held as the winner in a 1-0 win over Haiti.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cA bit surreal, to be honest,\u201d McGinn said of his goal. \u201cI wish VAR wasn\u2019t there because I thought Che [Adams] was offside, and it kind of curtailed my celebration \u2014 and the fact that it was a [deflection], but, when it hit the back of the net, you couldn\u2019t see the Scotland fans in the stadium going wild. I don\u2019t think it\u2019s really sunk in yet, but it\u2019s a great feeling.”<\/span><\/p>\n
