CHICAGO \u2014 Former Red Sox prospect Braden Montgomery hit a walkoff two-run homer in the 10th inning of his rousing major league debut to rally the White Sox past the Braves 6-5 on Tuesday night.<\/span><\/p>\n

Montgomery, who was drafted 12th overall by the Red Sox in 2024 before being sent to Chicago in the trade for Garrett Crochet that December, finished his debut 2 for 5 with three RBIs and the game-winning run.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Montgomery became just the fifth player in MLB history with a walkoff home run in his debut, joining Carlos Perez (2015), Miguel Cabrera (2003), Josh Bard (2002), and Billy Parker (1971), according to the Elias Sports Bureau.<\/span><\/p>\n

Miguel Vargas launched a two-run shot in the third to begin Chicago\u2019s comeback from a 4-0 deficit against the Braves, who have the best record in the majors at 45-22. Montgomery made it 4-3 with an RBI single in the fourth, and Jacob Gonzalez tied it with a run-scoring single in the seventh.<\/span><\/p>\n

The second-place White Sox (35-31) moved within a half-game of scuffling Cleveland atop the AL Central.<\/span><\/p>\n

Matt Olson homered twice in the first three innings for Atlanta, accounting for three runs. Mauricio Dub\u00f3n put the Braves up 5-4 in the top of the 10th with an RBI single.<\/span><\/p>\n

With two outs in the bottom half, Montgomery connected on an 0-1 changeup from closer Raisel Iglesias (0-1) and sent it 343 feet over the left-field wall to send the Rate Field crowd into a frenzy.<\/span><\/p>\n

Automatic runner Andrew Benintendi, another former Red Sox, scored from third ahead of Montgomery.<\/span><\/p>\n
