Michael Minogue, a Republican candidate for governor, did not look far for someone to be the face of his new \u201cDemocrats for Minogue\u201d advertisement. <\/span><\/p>\n

Identified as \u201cJeanni,\u201d a woman featured in a television ad Minogue\u2019s campaign released Tuesday touting his bipartisan appeal is also the candidate\u2019s direct neighbor and married to the chief operating officer of the biotechnology company Minogue ran for more than 18 years.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the 30-second advertisement, Jeannine Hicks, a registered Democrat, describes Minogue as an \u201cexcellent family man\u201d and a \u201cservant leader.\u201d But the spot did not detail her connections to the GOP\u2019s endorsed candidate, whom records show also sold Hicks and her husband a chunk of land from his lakeside property in their South Hamilton neighborhood. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cWe don\u2019t probably agree on everything politically, but I\u2019m still going to vote for him because I think this state needs a change,\u201d Hicks says in the ad. \u201cIt really isn\u2019t about a D or an R, it\u2019s really more about the person and where the person is going to take the state going forward.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

She adds that, \u201cthis year, I\u2019m voting for Mike Minogue.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Voter records show Hicks has been a registered Democrat in Hamilton since 2016. She did not cast a ballot in the 2022 gubernatorial election won by Governor Maura Healey, the Democrat whom Minogue is now vying to face in November.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hicks is married to William Danzinger, who serves as the COO of Abiomed, the medical device company that Minogue once led and has made a centerpiece of his campaign pitch. <\/span><\/p>\n

Danzinger and Minogue both worked at Abiomed for roughly a year and a half, with Danzinger elevating into his current role the same month Minogue left the company, according to his LinkedIn profile. They also worked at GE Healthcare at different times, according to their online r\u00e9sum\u00e9s.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hicks did not immediately respond to a message Tuesday.<\/span><\/p>\n

Matt Wolking, a spokesman for Minogue\u2019s campaign, did not address the connections between Hicks and Minogue, but confirmed the woman in the ad is his neighbor.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAs Jeanni says in the ad, she\u2019s a registered Democrat who will be voting for Republican Mike Minogue this year,\u201d Wolking said in a statement. \u201cWe welcome all Democrats and Independents supporting Mike \u2014 many who are voting Republican for the first time \u2014 because they believe Massachusetts needs a change in leadership and we need to work together as neighbors, not political enemies.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

In launching a coalition that attempts to tout his bipartisan chops, Minogue is trying to sway Democratic and independent voters in Massachusetts who lean left. Nearly 65 percent of the state\u2019s 5 million registered voters are not enrolled with any party, among the highest shares of any state in the country. <\/span><\/p>\n

But neither Danzinger nor Hicks is a new supporter of the Minogue campaign. <\/span><\/p>\n

Danzinger donated $1,000 to Minogue\u2019s gubernatorial campaign in January, and Hicks gave $1,000 in October, the same month Minogue launched his gubernatorial bid, and another $1,000 in February, according to campaign finance data. <\/span><\/p>\n

They\u2019re also close neighbors.<\/span><\/p>\n

Danzinger and Hicks live next door to Minogue\u2019s nearly 14-acre, $3.5 million property in South Hamilton. Minogue sold more than 10,500 square feet of his property to the couple in 2024 for $30,000, according to records from the Southern Essex Registry of Deeds.<\/span><\/p>\n

Minogue is running in a contested GOP gubernatorial primary this year against Brian Shortsleeve, a venture capitalist and a former MBTA executive. Both men are hoping to unseat Healey, a first-term Democrat.<\/span><\/p>\n

A Suffolk University\/Boston Globe poll of likely Massachusetts Republican primary voters last month found 45 percent of those surveyed said they are leaning toward voting for Minogue, while 13 percent preferred Shortsleeve and another 40 percent said they were undecided.<\/span><\/p>\n
