Crowning champs<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span>With less than two weeks remaining in the regular season, league champions are starting to get crowned.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>On Tuesday, Wayland boys\u2019 volleyball won the Dual County League, St. John\u2019s Prep boys\u2019 lacrosse won a share of its seventh straight Catholic Conference crown, Chelmsford girls\u2019 lacrosse clinched the Merrimack Valley title, Medford boys\u2019 lacrosse secured its second straight unbeaten Greater Boston League championship, Central Catholic softball won its fourth straight Merrimack Valley title, and Longmeadow baseball won the Valley East title for the first time since 1969. <\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<h2>3. Commitment central<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span>\u25aa Scituate junior <b>Grayson Foley<\/b> announced his commitment to play baseball at Bryant. Coaching carousel<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span>\u25aa Arlington has dubbed former defensive coordinator <b>Jonathan Nascimento<\/b> as its football coach.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Nascimento, who played at Everett and Norwich, served as defensive coordinator under <b>John Dubzinski<\/b> last decade. His brother, <b>Jason Nascimento<\/b>, was the coach at Medford from 2012-18.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Nascimento will take over for <b>Frank Roche<\/b>, who left after three years with the Spy Ponders to take over at Belmont Hill. The Warriors won the 2025 Division 3 state title.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI am incredibly honored to be named the head coach of boys\u2019 hockey at Nauset,\u201d O\u2019Connor said in a statement. \u201cI am looking forward to maintaining and building on the established culture from the past four seasons.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>O\u2019Connor was a captain at Arlington Catholic and Southern New Hampshire, while also spending a postgrad year at South Kent. He is the youth hockey director for the Northeast Generals and has coached at Mt. I\u2019m honored for the opportunity to give back to a community that means so much to me and help student-athletes grow both on and off the field.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Sousa serves as the assistant goalkeeper director for NEFC South and has coached within MLS NEXT. He spent nine seasons at Wheaton, reaching the national quarterfinals. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWe are excited to welcome Joshua Sousa back to Somerset Berkley,\u201d said athletic director <b>Joe Francis<\/b>. \u201cHis experience developing student-athletes at multiple levels, combined with his passion for the school and understanding of our community, make him an outstanding leader for our boys\u2019 soccer program.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u25aa Concord-Carlisle girls\u2019 hockey coach <b>Steph Jahnle<\/b> has resigned after six seasons, the school announced. She went 16-86-1, peaking with a 5-13 mark in 2023-24. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cCoach Jahnle and her staff created an inclusive team environment that seamlessly balanced the needs of all her players in the program,\u201d said C-C athletic director <b>Aaron Joncas<\/b> in a statement. \u201cKindness and enthusiasm were highlights of Coach Jahnle\u2019s tenure, as evidenced by the growth in our program the last few years.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Thank you to Girls Hockey Coach Steph Jahnle for her years of dedicated service at Concord-Carlisle High School! @GlobeSchools @BConn63 pic.twitter.com\/j9lAMUMAh4<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Concord-Carlisle High School Athletics (@CCPatsAD) May 13, 2026<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<h2>10. Here and there<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span>\u25aa Like Bishop Feehan before it, St. Mary\u2019s is opting to leave the Catholic Central League in most sports. The Spartans will remain independent members of the MIAA.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Athletic director <b>Jeff Newhall<\/b> noted the school already played an independent football schedule, and 14 of its 20 boys\u2019 hockey games were against nonleague opponents. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThis will not be a major change in some sports,\u201d he said in a statement. \u201cThis decision is designed to give us flexibility in scheduling and provide enhanced opportunities for our student-athletes and their families.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>St. Mary\u2019s has won a state title in at least one sport for 19 consecutive years, with its boys\u2019 basketball team capturing the Division 2 title in March. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cGoing fully independent removes any restrictions from how we can schedule,\u201d Newhall said. \u201cAnd we still have the option to play CCL teams. Bishop Feehan left the league last year and we are still playing them in almost every sport.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u25aa After 96 Thanksgiving football meetings with Dedham, Norwood has entered into a two-year agreement with Oliver Ames, according to Hockomock Sports. The Tigers will host in 2026, followed by the Mustangs. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Norwood\u2019s annual meeting with Dedham \u2014 it led the all-time series 55-41 \u2014 ended when the Marauders joined with Sharon in a co-op.
