The upsets<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span>Tuesday wasn\u2019t a good day for lower seeds, which went 2-61. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>No. 12 Franklin County Tech softball ended No. 4 West Boylston\u2019s 20-game win streak with a 4-2 Division 5 second-round win thanks to strong pitching from<b> Brayleigh Burgh<\/b> and an RBI single from <b>Emma Petersen<\/b>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In Division 3 boys\u2019 tennis, No. 9 Medfield managed a 4-1 victory over No. 1 Wilmington, with singles victories coming from <b>Warren Churchill<\/b> and<b> Braeden Chamberland<\/b>. <\/span><\/p>\n<div><span>Related<span>: <\/span><\/span>Monday\u2019s baseball roundup: With his arm and bat, Eric Stanley sends Barnstable past Duxbury<\/div>\n<p><span>Monday, meanwhile, saw a trio of single-digit seeded baseball teams drop from the Division 2 bracket: No. 6 Shepherd Hill fell, 5-4, to No. 27 Canton; No. 8 Minnechaug was defeated, 8-2, by No. 25 Masconomet; and No. 9 Hingham was bounced by No. 24 Nashoba. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In the Division 1 softball first round Monday, No. 22 Methuen took down No. 11 Needham, 7-1, with <b>Melany Reyes<\/b> providing three hits and two RBIs. <\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<h2>3. Agganis scholarship winners<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span>The 2026 Agannis All-Star games will be played June 27-28 in Lynn, and in anticipation the Agganis Foundation announced its 2026 scholarship recipients. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Named for legendary Lynn athlete <b>Harry Agganis<\/b>, the foundation has awarded $2.68 million in scholarships to 1,086 student-athletes since its founding in 1958. Each recipient receives a $2,000 yearly scholarship for each year they are in college. An additional President\u2019s scholarship is a one-time $2,000 award. This year, an 11th scholarship was named for <b>Paul Halloran<\/b>, a longtime Daily Item sportswriter and longtime executive director of the Agganis games. <\/span><\/p>\n<div><span>Related<span>: <\/span><\/span>Seventy years after his premature death, there\u2019s still never been anyone in these parts quite like Harry Agganis<\/div>\n<p><span>This year\u2019s scholarship recipients are: Lynn Tech\u2019s <b>Awan Awan<\/b> (Cornell), Marblehead\u2019s <b>Sydney Ball<\/b> (Temple), KIPP Academy\u2019s <b>Joseph Beato<\/b> (Rice), Peabody\u2019s <b>Elizabeth Bettencourt<\/b> (Bates), Marblehead\u2019s <b>Breydan Callahan<\/b> (Johns Hopkins), Swampscott\u2019s <b>Nico Croft<\/b> (Michigan), Lynn English\u2019s <b>Madisen McHale<\/b> (Salem State), Salem\u2019s <b>Mia Silva<\/b> (Amherst), and four St. Mary\u2019s students: <b>Calli Allaire<\/b> (Vanderbilt), <b>Cameryn Dunn<\/b> (Stonehill), <b>Micah Hashikawa<\/b> (Michigan), and <b>Samuel Phelps<\/b> (Tufts). <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThe Scholarship Committee continues to be impressed with the quality of applications we receive from across North Shore every year,\u201d said <b>David Angeramo<\/b>, chair of the committee. \u201cNot only are these students getting the job done in the classroom and on the field, they are also making a difference in their schools and in the greater community.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<h2>6. Adrian Martinez Classic on deck<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span>This Sunday, Emerson Field in Concord will host the 15th annual Adrian Martinez Classic, a track meet featuring elite athletes, Olympians, and local runners. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The competition is named for a champion miler from Concord-Carlisle who died of cardiac arrest at age 22. The meet raises funds for his high school teams, as well as a scholarship in his name. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>There is prize money for the top four male and female finishers in the 800, 1,500, and 2-mile, with bonuses for meet records and American records.
