Milestones<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span>\u25aa Norton softball senior <b>Paige Donahue<\/b> recorded her 100th career hit while driving in two runs during a 13-0 Division 3 first-round softball win over Nauset. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u25aa Sandwich senior <b>Joe Coughlan<\/b> had himself a day, allowing one run over six innings with nine strikeouts, as well as collecting his 100th career hit as part of a 16-1 Division 4 first-round baseball win over Quabbin. <\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<h2>4. The upsets<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span>As we noted, three top-seven seeded baseball teams were bounced Sunday, all thanks to impressive pitching performances, and two were in Division 1.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>No. 3 Springfield Central was sent packing by No. 35 North Quincy, which rode a sterling <b>Max LaMonica<\/b> pitching performance (10 strikeouts in 5\u2154 innings) and a two-run double from <b>John Barron<\/b> in the sixth to a 5-4 first-round stunner. <\/span><\/p>\n<div><span>Related<span>: <\/span><\/span>Brody Bumila dazzles on the mound and at the plate as Bishop Feehan opens playoffs with shutout of Andover<\/div>\n<p><span>Also in D1, No. 26 Westford enjoyed the work of its ace as <b>Jared Welsh<\/b> went the distance, limiting the damage to five hits and two walks and striking out two in a 4-3 first-round upset of No. 7 Taunton. \u201cHe\u2019s a very smart guy who hits his spots and knows when to hold \u2018em and when to fold \u2018em,\u201d Westford coach <b>Mike Parent<\/b> said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In Division 3, No. 28 Billerica took down No. 5 Bishop Stang, riding <b>Cam Amenkowicz\u2019s<\/b> nine-whiff shutout and <b>Ryan Fisher\u2019s<\/b> two run single in the fourth inning to a 3-0 first-round win. Also in D3 baseball, No. 17 Newburyport defeated No. 16 Dighton-Rehoboth, 3-0. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>No. 9 Andover became the highest seed sent packing thus far from the Division 1 softball bracket, falling 7-2 to No. 24 Beverly, which got big days at the plate from <b>Lidia Miedema<\/b>, <b>Sophia Balducci<\/b>, and <b>Kayla Everett<\/b>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In the boys\u2019 lacrosse tournament, No. 11 Advanced Math and Science was bounced in Division 4, No. 15 Bishop Stang is out in D3, and No. 16 Plymouth North got beat in D2. AMSA lost, 16-12, to No. 22 Lynnfield, which got five goals apiece from <b>Sean Bridges<\/b> and <b>Sam Curley<\/b>. Stang was defeated, 12-8, by No. 18 Dover-Sherborn which got a game-high six points from <b>Henry Fowler<\/b>. Plymouth North was undone, 16-10, by No. 17 Silver Lake, which got five goals each from <b>Finn Cronin<\/b> and <b>Owen MacInnis<\/b>. <\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<h2>5. Best finishes<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span>Talk about dramatic. No. 4 Milton baseball trailed No. 29 Marblehead, 3-2, in the bottom of the seventh when junior <b>Teddy Dunn<\/b> strode the plate with the bases juiced. Going, going, gone<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span>It was a day for grannies, including one of the walkoff manner.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Dighton-Rehoboth\u2019s <b>Cam Cloonan<\/b>, Georgetown\u2019s <b>Meghan Maguire<\/b>, and Frontier\u2019s <b>Skyler Steele<\/b> all homered with the bases loaded, as did Milton\u2019s Dunn in the loudest way possible.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Attleboro got back-to-back homers from <b>Lola Ronayne<\/b> and <b>Avery Graziosi<\/b>, and St. Mary\u2019s enjoyed dingers from <b>Abby Sousa<\/b> and <b>Sydney Wells<\/b>. The rest of the day\u2019s round-trippers belonged to: Catholic Memorial\u2019s <b>Rocky Vankoski<\/b>, <b>Jackson Lucarelli<\/b> of St. John\u2019s (Shrewsbury), St. John\u2019s Prep\u2019s <b>Connor Durney<\/b>, Hopedale\u2019s <b>Noah Smith<\/b>, and Middleborough\u2019s <b>Taylynn Robinson<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<h2>7. Ten stars<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span><b>Ellie Boland<\/b>, Walpole \u2014 The junior struck out a whopping 17 Wayland batters, scattering two hits without allowing an earned run for the Timberwolves in a 4-1 Division 2 softball first-round win. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><b>Seamus Cable<\/b>, Wakefield \u2014 The senior enjoyed a robust offensive day, scoring six goals in a 17-5 Division 3 boys\u2019 lacrosse first-round win against Danvers. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><b>Kylie Grazulis<\/b>, <b>Lexie Paulhus<\/b>, and <b>Ava Robinson<\/b>, Northbridge \u2014 The trio combined to no-hit Excel Academy over five innings, producing a 27-0 softball drubbing in the Division 4 preliminary round. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><b>Riley Halloran<\/b>, Walpole \u2014 The junior led all female scorers Sunday with seven goals ina 19-7 girls\u2019 lacrosse Division 2 second-round victory vs. Marshfield. <\/span><\/p>\n<div><span>Related<span>: <\/span><\/span>For 54 years, the Boston Shootout has been a fixture in the New England basketball scene<\/div>\n<p><span><b>Edy Latour<\/b>, Dighton-Rehoboth \u2014 The junior lefthander fired a five-inning no-hitter, fanning eight and collecting two hits and two RBIs at the dish to defeat Greater Lawrence, 13-0, in a first-round Division 3 softball matchup. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><b>Charlie Mallett<\/b>, West Bridgewater \u2014 The junior spun a 10-strikeout no-hitter, lifting the Wildcats to an 8-0 Division 4 baseball preliminary-round victory over St. Bernard\u2019s.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><b>Skyler Steele<\/b>, Frontier \u2014 The junior had herself a day at the plate, finishing 3 for 3 with five runs, five RBIs, and a sixth-inning grand slam to lift the Red Hawks past No. 29 Mt.
