Junior Bri Arzuaga (2 for 2) socked a triple and drove in four runs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><b>Newton South 19, Winchester 14 \u2014 <\/b>Zoe Spector (2 hits) belted a grand slam, driving in six runs as the No. 33 Lions (12-8) slugged their way to a preliminary-round triumph over No. 32 Winchester (10-11). Maddie Andrade (4 for 6) and Ella Centurelli (RBI double) chipped in as the Lions piled up 15 hits. For Winchester, Katherine Lisy crushed a two-run homer. Righthander Mia Porcelli (5 scoreless innings, 2 hits, 5 strikeouts) and Avery Smith (7 innings, four hits, 6 strikeouts) combined in the circle for the Mountaineers, and Lowell\u2019s Maddie Ellsworth stacked 19 strikeouts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><b>Westford 12, Revere 0 \u2014 <\/b>Olivia Bernier fired the two-hit shutout, striking out eight and walking none as the No. 29 Ghosts (9-9) cruised past No. 36 Revere (14-6) in the preliminary round. Grace Janowsky (3 for 3) socked a double and a pair of singles, and Khloe Felicani went 3 for 4.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><i>Division 2<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><b>Dartmouth 17, Lynn Classical 4 \u2014 <\/b>Abby Lancaster cracked three hits, including a three-run single and a double, to propel the No. 27 Indians (12-8) past No. 38 Lynn Classical (13-8) in a preliminary-round triumph. Emma Silva added three hits, and Addison Thomas rapped an RBI single to spark a 10-run explosion in the fifth inning. Kelsey Pomfret scattered four hits, striking out five and walking one.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><b>Nashoba 13, Bay Path 0 \u2014 <\/b>Jenna Gale (3 runs, 2 RBIs), Christiana Babineau (3 RBIs), and Charlotte Thoin (2 runs, RBI) led a dominant offense showing as the No. 33 Wolves (12-7) took a bite out of No. 32 Bay Path (8-13) in a preliminary-round shutout.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><b>Oliver Ames 8, Northampton 3 \u2014 <\/b>Katie Berg rapped a pair of solo homers, Elliot Moore crushed a three-run blast, and Gia Giovanello added a two-run shot as the No. 29 Tigers (9-12) brought the thunder in a preliminary-round victory over No. 36 Northampton (11-10).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><b>Plymouth South 10, Danvers 4 \u2014 <\/b>Abby Masterson sent a three-run homer in the fifth to give the No. 12 Panthers (15-4) breathing room in a dominant first-round triumph over No. 21 Danvers (13-8).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><b>Wayland 7, Ashland 6 \u2014 <\/b>Freshman Liv Kirmelewicz drove in the winning run for the No. 37 Warriors (11-9) to rally and defeat No. 28 Ashland (15-6) in the preliminary round, heading to the first round for the first time since 2009.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><i>Division 3<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><b>Cardinal Spellman 13, Blackstone Valley 1 \u2014 <\/b>Freshmen Gabby Richardson hammered a three-run homer for the No. 10 Cardinals (16-5) as they flew past No. 23 Blackstone Valley (9-10) for a first-round victory. Kiley Dolan only gave up four hits in the circle.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><b>Greater Lawrence 7, Pembroke 5 \u2014 <\/b>Samantha Nasella was key, delivering a go-ahead three-run homer to seal a preliminary-round comeback for the No. 33 Reggies (13-8) over No. 32 Pembroke (9-12). In the circle, Nasella (three RBIs, two runs) scattered four hits and dealt 11 punchouts. Cate Sheehan and Mia Lock won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><i>Division 2 State<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><b>Duxbury 5, Foxborough 0 \u2014 <\/b>Sophomore Sophie Smith (6-0, 6-0) and freshman Ella Towse (6-0, 6-0) won at first and second singles, respectively, in straight sets for the top-seeded Dragons (17-2) first-round win. Rafael Ferias anchored the defense with 21 digs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><b>Brookline 3, Woburn 0 \u2014 <\/b>Alec Smagula lifted the offense with 29 assists as the second-seeded Warriors (15-2) trounced No. 31 Woburn (12-9) in a first-round triumph. Sophomore Baylor Mandell added eight kills, and senior Yaroslav Ivanchenko notched six aces along with seven digs. South coach Lucas Coffeen attributed the win to strong defensive planning to counter Revere\u2019s attack. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cFor us it was a really good night,\u201d he said. \u201cWe knew they were a strong team. We put in some work in practice to prepare for them and had a defensive plan designed just for them.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Going forward in the tournament, Coffeen wants his team to stay focused, not worrying about the outcome of every play. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIf we can have consistent engagement around that, which we eventually did tonight, that\u2019s what we\u2019re looking for,\u201d he said. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Despite winning in three sets, Coffeen praised the young Revere program for how far they\u2019ve come in seven years. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThey do a lot of things well, strong players, athletic. What they\u2019ve done to having no program in Revere to going 18-2 was definitely impressive.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><i>Division 2 State<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><b>Burlington 3, Ware 0 \u2014 <\/b>Junior Mark Delaney (11 kills, 7 service points, 3 digs, 14 receptions) starred for the No. 13 Red Devils (12-9) as they swept past No. 20 Ware (17-4) for a first-round win, clinching their first second-round appearance in their five-year program history. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cMark was on fire,\u201d said Burlington coach Wingsze Seaman. \u201cHe was front row, back row, on the surface line, he played very confidently, which is something we\u2019ve been working on throughout the season.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Burlington has made the tournament four of five years, something coach Seaman noted was very exciting for the school and a testament to the team\u2019s senior leadership. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cGetting through the first round goes to show how much hard work they\u2019ve put in through the season,\u201d she said. \u201cThey continue to work hard and show up for each other, and getting through this first round is very exciting for all of us.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><b>Greater Lowell 3, Lynn Classical 2 \u2014 <\/b>In five-set defeat, senior Kenzel Lantano stacked up 49 assists, raising his career total to 1977, as No. 16 Lynn Classical (13-8) fell to No. 17 Greater Lowell (16-5) in a first-round battle, with the visitors taking the 15-10 clincher. Lantano also added 19 digs with four blocks for Lynn Classical.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><b>Norton 3, Springfield Sci-Tech 1 \u2014 <\/b>Andrew Strojny (25 kills, 11 digs, 4 blocks) and Jordan Moore (38 assists, 4 digs) led the way for the No. 21 Lancers (14-5) in a first-round upset over No. 12 Springfield Sci-Tech (15-5).
