Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy had his in-person hearing with the NHL\u2019s player safety department in New York Monday for his slash on Buffalo\u2019s Zach Benson in Game 6 of their playoff series on May 1.<\/span><\/p>\n

No decision on McAvoy\u2019s case was announced, though DPS had a busy day, levying a pair of fines from the Sabres-Canadiens game Sunday night.<\/span><\/p>\n

Buffalo\u2019s Beck Malenstyn was fined for interference on Montreal goalie Jakub Dobes and Canadiens defenseman Arber Xhekaj was fined for roughing on Sabres forward Sam Carrick. Malenstyn was docked $3,515.63 and Xhekaj was hit for $3,385.42, both the maximum allowed under the collective bargaining agreement for their respective transgressions.<\/span><\/p>\n

McAvoy has been suspended twice before by DPS.<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2019, McAvoy served a one-game ban for an illegal check to the head of Josh Anderson in a playoff game against Columbus. In 2023, he was suspended four games for an illegal check to the head of Florida\u2019s Oliver Ekman-Larsson.<\/span><\/p>\n
