{"id":1416,"date":"2026-05-28T17:04:36","date_gmt":"2026-05-28T17:04:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bostonrelocationinsider.com\/?p=1416"},"modified":"2026-05-28T17:04:36","modified_gmt":"2026-05-28T17:04:36","slug":"trump-administration-sues-mass-over-denial-of-confidential-plates-for-ice-vehicles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bostonrelocationinsider.com\/?p=1416","title":{"rendered":"Trump administration sues Mass. over denial of confidential plates for ICE vehicles"},"content":{"rendered":"<article>\n<div>\n<p><span>The Trump administration has sued Massachusetts over the state\u2019s refusal to issue confidential license plates to Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, the latest salvo in an ongoing clash between federal immigration authorities and Democrat-led states over enforcement tactics. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/bostonrelocationinsider.com\/?p=1415\">\u2018Keep our little kids safe.\u2019 Healey issues guidance for schools, churches, and other locations in dealing with ICE<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span>The lawsuit, filed in federal court in Boston on Wednesday, argues that Massachusetts is unconstitutionally discriminating against federal immigration agencies by denying undercover or confidential license plates to ICE and US Customs and Border Protection officers while continuing to issue them to other federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The Justice Department filed similar lawsuits against Maine, Washington, and Oregon.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span>In a statement, Acting US Attorney General Todd Blanche accused the states of \u201cpursuing discriminatory and obstructionist policies against federal law enforcement.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThese actions undermine federal immigration enforcement, allow dangerous criminals to escape justice, and terrorize American communities,\u201d Blanche said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/bostonrelocationinsider.com\/?p=1413\">These are some of the Trump Justice Department\u2019s targets<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span>The Massachusetts lawsuit names Governor Maura Healey, Attorney General Andrea Campbell, Transportation Secretary Phil Eng, and Registrar of Motor Vehicles Colleen Ogilvie as defendants. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>On Thursday, Healey said the state has no plans to issue the confidential plates.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWe\u2019re not going to help them operate in secret as they take people off our streets without cause,\u201d she told reporters. \u201cWe\u2019re not going to allow them to make our streets and our communities and our neighborhoods and our state less safe.
