Fleet’s Kris Sparre one of three finalists for PWHL Coach of the Year

The Boston Fleet are well-represented in PWHL award nominations.

Two days ago, Megan Keller and Haley Winn were named finalists for Defender of the Year. Yesterday, it was announced that Aerin Frankel has been named a Goaltender of the Year finalist. Now, it’s coach Kris Sparre’s turn.

Sparre, who just completed his first season, was named a PWHL Coach of the Year finalist, joined by Montreal’s Kori Cheverie and Ottawa’s Carla MacLeod.

Sparre’s Fleet were the first team to clinch a playoff spot, in just 24 games, as they tied the league record for points in a season (62).

Boston took a step forward under Sparre, earning 18 more points than in 2024-25. The Fleet were the first team in PWHL to earn 30 points both at home and on the road. They only allowed 45 goals, the second fewest in the league. It served as a 31-goal improvement from their 2024-25 mark.

This was Sparre’s first season coaching women. He joined the Fleet after a three-year stint as an assistant coach with the San Diego Gulls, the Anaheim Ducks’ AHL affiliate.

The winner will be announced at the PWHL Awards in Detroit on June 16.
