Tuesday’s 11 high school sports takeaways, brought to you by the number 500

The final week of the regular season is upon us, and Tuesday’s midday heat mixed with evening thunderstorms resulted in a few postponements, but that didn’t stop Plymouth North baseball coach Dwayne Follette from earning his 500th career win, Waltham junior Leah France and Braintree senior Norah Downey from making their 500th career saves, or No. 5 Natick boys’ volleyball from taking down No. 3 Brookline.

2. Milestones

An institution at Plymouth North, Follettebecame the 19th high school baseball coach in state history to compile 500 career wins. Follette, in his 34th year at the helm, got there with a 2-0 triumph over Patriot League rival Marshfield, putting the finishing touch on his historic win by locking up a Patriot League title.

Jim Wilcon won his 100th career game as Weston boys’ lacrosse slipped past Hopkinton, 11-10, in overtime.

▪ Waltham’s France turned away seven shots during a 13-4 girls’ lacrosse win against Wakefield, pushing her past 500 career saves.

▪ Also notching her 500th career save was Braintree’s Downey, who made nine stops in a 6-3 girls’ lacrosse win over Milton.

▪ Weymouth coach Bill McEachern earned his 200th boys’ volleyball victory in his 18th year with the program victory with a 3-0 triumph over Braintree. McEachern also coaches Weymouth boys’ soccer.

▪ Beverly sophomore Ashley Wallace reached 100 career points with four goals and one assist in a 20-5 girls’ lacrosse win over Gloucester.

▪ West Bridgewater’s Alanna Fidalgo notched her 100th career hit for West Bridgewater in a 12-11 softball loss to Cardinal Spellman.

▪ Milton senior Zahria Daley struck out the 250th batter of her career in the first inning of an 8-3 softball victory over Weymouth.

▪ Waltham senior Quinn Gavin tallied five goals, including the 200th of her career, during a 19-9 girls’ lacrosse win over Arlington.

▪ Ipswich senior Allie Wile scored four times, eclipsing 200 career goals during a 15-14 girls’ lacrosse win vs. Hamilton-Wenham.

▪ Stoughton senior Sean Rockwood became the first player in program history to reach 100 career goals during a 14-1 boys’ lacrosse win over Taunton.

▪ Medway senior Justin Pillard scored seven times to surpass 100 career goals during a 17-8 boys’ lacrosse win over Bellingham.

▪ Hanover senior Sebastian Brown topped 100 career points with two goals in a 15-7 boys’ lacrosse win over Barnstable.

▪ Bishop Feehan junior Emily Berube netted her 100th career goal while scoring four times during a 20-7 girls’ lacrosse win over Bishop Stang.

▪ Ursuline senior Rowan Luber scored four times to notch her 100th career goal during a 22-12 girls’ lacrosse win vs. Archbishop Williams.

▪ Manchester Essex senior Penelope Riggs collected her 100th career hit while going 3 for 4 to help top Triton, 7-3, in softball.

▪ Norton senior Bryson Chartier reached 100 career blocks during a 3-1 boys’ volleyball triumph over Millis.

▪ Gloucester senior Emma Carrapichosa recently notched her 100th career hit.

3. Claiming crowns

In addition to Plymouth North baseball capturing the Patriot League title, Beverly girls’ lacrosse repeated as Northeastern Conference champions, Wakefield softball clinched the Middlesex Freedom crown, Shawsheen girls’ lacrosse captured a Commonwealth championship, Melrose boys’ tennis clinched a share of the Middlesex Freedom title for the first time since 2018, and for the first time, Cambridge baseball captured a Dual County League championship.

On Monday, Hopkinton baseball won the Tri-Valley Large, Walpole baseball clinched the Bay State Herget, Abington softball championed the South Shore Tobin, Newburyport boys’ lacrosse won the Cape Ann crown, Swampscott baseball captured the Northeastern Lynch title for the first time since 1997, and Taunton softball locked up its fourth straight Hockomock League championship.

4. The upsets

▪ No. 5 Natick boys’ volleyball avenged a loss from earlier in the season with a thrilling five-set upset of No. 3 Brookline.

▪ While Hamilton-Wenham baseball hadn’t cracked the Globe Top 20 poll, it was on the verge, but the Generals lost their undefeated season with a 2-1 six-inning loss to Georgetown, thanks to Ty Southall’s two-run first-inning blast.

▪ Unranked Woburn softball got the best of No. 20 Reading, 1-0, thanks to freshman Chloe D’Agostino’s fifth career shutout, which featured seven strikeouts and three hits allowed.

5. Best finishes

▪ North Quincy senior captain Tim Toland walked off Plymouth South with a single in the seventh that delivered a 4-3 baseball win.

▪ Weston junior Luke Betty fired home the winning goal 20 seconds into overtime for an 11-10 boys’ lacrosse win over Hopkinton.

6. Going, going, gone

Greater New Bedford sophomore Khloe Pereira had the big blast of the day, launching a grand slam, while Duxbury’s Jodi Soderstrom and East Bridgewater’s Maggie Schlossberg both launched a pair of homers.

East Bridgewater also got a blast from Riley Egan, Chelmsford’s Liv Ciardi and Kelsey O’Hare both left the yard, as did Duxbury’s Catherine Grimaldi and Mikaela Morgan.

The rest of the days round-trippers belonged to Georgetown’s Southall, Hanover’s Nora Barrett, Wakefield’s Molly Burns, Bristol Aggie’s Autumn Nicholson, Westford’s Kaitlin Wilson, St. John Paul II’s Brian Mancinelli, and Silver Lake’sPeyton Sciulli.

7. Six stars

Madison Adams, Marshfield — The sophomore had the rare two-triple day, driving in three runs in an 11-0 softball triumph over Plymouth North.

Brayden Crawford, Saugus — The senior struck out 13 in seven innings, yielding just one run on six hits in a 3-1 baseball win over Peabody.

Ruth Fagundes, Bristol Aggie — The freshman picked up where she left off in a weather-suspended softball game, finishing off an 11-strikeout no-hitter to beat Cape Cod Tech, 16-4.

Kasey Pomfret, Dartmouth — The sophomore was a two-way star, crushing a three-run double, a two-run single, and forcing a bases-loaded walk to drive in six runs while also fanning seven over four two-hit innings in the circle.

Jodi Soderstrom, Duxbury — The junior produced 12 total bases, homering twice and drilling a pair of doubles to finish with six RBIs in a 15-4 softball win over Hingham.

Kayla Shaw, Wakefield — The junior twirled a one-hitter to defeat Wilmington softball, 8-0.

8. Commitment central

Archbishop Williams senior Bobby Louis, a two-time Catholic Central All-Star, is committed to play basketball at UMass Boston, where his father, George, played and coached. Louis, a 5-foot-10-inch, 185-pound guard started his high school career at Bridgewater-Raynham before transferring.

9. Here and there

▪ Nominations for the 2026 Wasabi Fenway Bowl Honor Roll are open. The honor roll is a charitable program that recognizes educators who go above and beyond to support their students and communities. Fifteen educators, administrators, and staff will be selected, with each receiving a $1,000 grant. Nominations can be made here until midnight July 7. The class will be announced in October.

▪ The Track at New Balance will host 120 athletes from area Boys & Girls clubs for the fifth annual 1906 Invitational Basketball Tournament on Saturday. The tournament brings together youths from across Greater Boston to celebrate teamwork, community, and friendly competition.

The event starts at 10:15 a.m. with a performance by Celtics mascot Lucky and the Flight crew. After a welcome from Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll, games will be played from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. followed by championship games at 3:30 and awards at 4.
