Patriots, second-round pick Gabe Jacas agree to terms on contract

FOXBOROUGH — The Patriots and second-round pick Gabe Jacas have finally agreed to terms on a contract, according to a team source Saturday, which means he is set to report to Gillette Stadium after missing the entirety of the spring offseason program.

Jacas, drafted 55th, was present at Gillette Stadium for portions of rookie minicamp in May, but was absent for all organized team activity practices because he was unsigned. He was the only Patriot not to report for the start of training camp and, as of Friday, was the only non-quarterback of the 2026 draft class to not have signed a contract.

Now, Jacas is set to make his long-awaited arrival. He will still have to undergo a physical for the deal to become official. If he passes, then the expectation is that he will be on the field Sunday.

It is not clear why it took Jacas such a long time to sign a contract. Coach Mike Vrabel would only acknowledge that Jacas underwent surgery during the offseason. He would not provide any other details, including whether the Patriots were aware of the procedure prior to drafting him.

Vrabel had expressed confidence Friday that Jacas’s contract situation would be resolved soon. Even though Jacas will undoubtedly be behind as a result of his extended absence, the Patriots are hopeful they can create an effective development plan now that he’s in the building.
