Saturday’s eight HS sports takeaways, including a 700th coaching win and ISL Tournament semifinals

On a day filled with ISL Tournament semifinal showdowns in baseball and boys’ and girls’ lacrosse, it was a 700th coaching win that stole the spotlight.

Other highlights included a 300th career boys’ lacrosse point, a 200th career girls’ lacrosse point, several league titles being claimed, and two no-hitters.

Cam Pellegrino was on hand for the New England Scholastic Lacrosse League title, which Pingree claimed for a second-straight year in a defensive battle. The ISL crowns will be claimed Sunday.

1. Milestones

▪ Lynnfield girls’ tennis coach Craig Stone, who made history in February with his 1,300th coaching win across two sports — he also helms Lynnfield/North Reading wrestling — made more history Saturday with his 700th tennis victory thanks to a pair of 5-0 wins over, ironically, North Reading.

Now in his 45th season coaching girls’ tennis — he’s at 50 for wrestling — Stone carries an overall record of 700-126. He’s led the Pioneers, who are 13-2 this season, to five state titles.

▪ One game after notching his 300th career point, Cohasset senior Gus Greene scored his 200th career goal, one of three tallies in a 17-7 boys’ lacrosse win over Moses Brown (R.I.).

▪ Acton-Boxborough senior Victoria Thermidor reached 200 career points while scoring five goals in an 18-12 girls’ lacrosse win over Grafton that also saw sophomore Millie Brady exceed 100 career points with four goals and two assists.

▪ Austin Prep junior Jordyn Petitjean eclipsed 100 career goals while scoring four times in a 17-3 girls’ lacrosse romp over Cushing.

▪ Marblehead sophomore Zoe Dwyer scored seven times in a 14-6 girls’ lacrosse victory vs. Tewksbury, to fly past 100 career goals.

2. Clinching crowns

▪ North Reading baseball shut out Essex Tech, 5-0, to claim the Cape Ann League Large championship.

▪ Westford boys’ tennis finished an undefeated Dual County League campaign by capturing the league title with a 3-2 victory over Lincoln-Sudbury. The Ghosts swept the singles matchups thanks to Rishabh Anoop (No. 1), Preet Mood (No. 2), and Shrey Chawla (No. 3).

▪ Clinton baseball captured its first Mid-Wach C championship in 11 years with a 14-2 win over Lunenberg, powered by Brian Silvester’s five RBIs.

Jack Spear, Nate Berman, and Jonah Richardson combined on a one-hit shutout as Pingree slipped past Berwick, 1-0, to win the Eastern Independent League baseball title. Aidan Horgan’s RBI groundout scored Drew Mullaney for the game’s lone run.

▪ Saturday’s semifinals have set up Sunday’s ISL Tournament championships.

Baseball: Sixth-seeded Milton Academy will host No. 8 Tabor in the final (3:30 p.m., while Brooks visits BB&N at noon for the consolation championship (noon).

Boys’ lacrosse: The top two seeds will meet as No. 2 St. Sebastian’s visits No. 1 Tabor at 1 p.m. for the championship, with Middlesex hosting Roxbury Latin in the consolation final at 11 a.m.

Girls’ lacrosse: It’s third-seeded Governor’s paying a visit to No. 1 Nobles for a 4 p.m. championship tip-off before Groton hosts St. George’s at 6 p.m. to finish out the consolation bracket.

3. The upset

Junior Kiley Carmichael won 75 percent of her draw controls to go with five goals and three assists, leading No. 17 Westford past No. 9 Chelmsford, 11-9, in girls’ lacrosse action. Sophomore Grace Trahan chipped in with four goals for the Ghosts, who took down the No. 2 team in the .

4. Best finishes

▪ Junior Julia Schirmer stole the spotlight on Hingham’s senior day, ripping a walkoff double to finish off a come-from-behind, 8-7, victory over Cohasset.

▪ Whittier’s 11-10 softball triumph over Swampscott was realized when sophomore Ella Hilke stole home for the winning run.

▪ Senior Cadel McKeown played hero for Melrose, lacing a walkoff RBI double in the ninth inning for a 2-1 baseball win over Stoneham.

5. Going, going, gone

Amesbury sophomore Katelyn Cronin showed off her power stroke with a pair of homers, and Dighton-Rehoboth’s Camryn Cloonan and Whittier’s Samantha Evans showed off their speed with inside-the-park round-trippers.

The rest of the day’s home runs came from: Dighton-Rehoboth’s Zoe Fortin, Middleborough’s Logan Singleton, Georgetown’s Ty Southall, Millis’s Brody Barrett, Revere’s Joey Angiulo, New Bedford’s Brylee DeDeus, and Clinton’s Silvester.

6. Stars

Brody Barrett, Millis — The junior struck out 13 without allowing an earned run on the mound while collecting two hits, including a homer, at the dish.

Samantha Evans, Whittier — In addition to her inside-the-park homer, the junior added three more hits, including a double, and stacked up six RBIs in an 11-10 win over Swampscott.

Ant Ficco, Franklin — The sophomore fired a shutout, fanning six, and the Panthers needed it for a 1-0 softball win over Oliver Ames.

Sophia Galbiati, Peabody — The sophomore was named Danish Cup MVP after scoring six goals with two assists and two draw controls in the 15-9 girls’ lacrosse championship game triumph over Bishop Fenwick.

Ty Southall, Georgetown — The struck out eight in a five-inning no-hitter, providing a homer to help his cause in a 12-0 baseball romp over Rockport.

Zach Ward, Masconomet — The sophomore was untouchable, recording a no-hitter in a 3-0 baseball win over Beverly that saw him fan eight and walk two.
