Red Sox scheduled to open 2027 season March 25 in Seattle, though work stoppage a possibility

While MLB owners and players are bracing for the possibility of a work stoppage that could disrupt the beginning of the 2027 season, the league is nonetheless preparing for a full 162-game schedule, an effort formalized with the announcement of next season’s slate of games on Thursday.

The Sox are booked to open next season on Thursday, March 25, in Seattle against the Mariners, the earliest date ever for MLB’s traditional Opening Day. The Sox’ Fenway opener will take place against the Reds on Thursday, April 1. Cincinnati is the first of eight National League teams scheduled to make the trek to Fenway, a group that also includes the Dodgers (May 14-16).

The Guardians will serve as the Patriots’ Day foil on April 19. Otherwise, aside from the first Fourth of July game at Fenway since 2023, the Sox will be on the road for most holidays, including Mother’s Day (Cleveland), Memorial Day (Anaheim), Juneteenth (Arizona), and Labor Day (Toronto).

The Sox won’t see the Yankees until a four-game series from June 4-7 at Fenway. The rivals are scheduled to wrap up their 13-game season series with three games in the Bronx from Sept. 17-19, the Sox’ final road trip of the year.

The Sox will conclude the regular season with a six-game homestand against the Rays (Sept. 21-23) and Royals (Sept. 24-26). Of course, all dates are subject to change, a disclaimer that carries an ominous tinge given the unsettled state of the sport once the collective bargaining agreement expires in December.
