Fleet extend PWHL Rookie of the Year Haley Winn’s contract through the 2028-29 season
The Fleet further locked down one of their core defenders on Tuesday, signing 2026 PHWL Rookie of the Year Haley Winn to a one-year contract extension through the 2028-29 season.
Boston’s first-round draft pick (second overall) in the 2025 PWHL Draft, Winn signed a three-year standard player agreement last August, prior to her rookie season with the Fleet. The extension makes her Fleet’s only player currently under contract through 2028-29.
“I would love to continue to play as long as I can in Boston,” Winn said at the Fleet’s breakup day in May. “Boston is the place I definitely want to be for a while.”
In addition to being named the top rookie, Winn was a finalist for PWHL Defender of the Year, an honor that went to Fleet captain Megan Keller.
The 23-year-old Winn tied for third in the leauge for points by a defender with 19 (five goals, 14 assists) in 30 games, and also tied for most points by a rookie blue liner. She averaged a league-high 26:45 of ice time and racked up 45 blocked shots.
Winn also made her Olympic debut in Milan, where she won a gold medal and recorded a goal and three assists in seven games with Team USA.
Winn was one of the Fleet’s first three protections in the expansion process alongside Keller and goaltender Aerin Frankel as general manager Danielle Marmer sought to keep her defensive core intact. With four new teams, the PWHL is up to a total of 12 franchises.

“Haley Winn stepped in and is maybe one of the best pros I’ve ever seen,” Marmer said in June. “It’s incredible for how young she is — how she treats this, how she shows up every day, how she takes care of her body, how serious she takes it — without having been in pro hockey and watching players do that.”
The Rochester, N.Y., native will reunite with her former youth coach, François Méthot, this season. Méthot was hired in June to replace PWHL Coach of the Year Kris Sparre, who departed for the expansion team in Hamilton.
“I know he’ll do anything it takes to bring a Welter Cup home to Boston,” Winn said of Méthot at the PWHL Awards in June. “He communicates with his players, always wants the best, is super dialed into their development. He cares about every single person on the team, and I think that goes a long way.”
The Fleet have 16 players signed for the upcoming season. Forwards Loren Gabel, Taylor House, Ella Huber, Laura Kluge, Shay Maloney, Olivia Mobley, Jill Saulnier, Liz Schepers, Sophie Shirley, and Susanna Tapani join defenders Keller, Winn, Amanda Boulier, and Rylind MacKinnon, and goaltenders Frankel and Amanda Thiele.
Earlier this month, the Fleet announced are relocating full time to Agganis Arena, ending a three-year run at Lowell’s Tsongas Center.
