Red Sox finally take flight from Chicago on Friday afternoon, hours before scheduled game in Queens
NEW YORK — Following their last game against the White Sox on Thursday afternoon, the Red Sox remained stuck in Chicago into Friday afternoon, sources said.

The team encountered multiple plane issues in trying to continue to New York, a source said, until finally taking off around 3 p.m. Eastern.
For now, the plan remains for the Red Sox to play the Mets in the teams’ series opener Friday night at Citi Field, people with both teams said. First pitch is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.

The Red Sox have won six consecutive games and 11 of their past 13. That run began immediately after another travel issue, when they had trouble getting out of Denver and wound up landing in Boston around 5 a.m. on the day their homestand began.
