Globe Top 20 boys’ volleyball poll: Biggest upheavel of the season

The penultimate week of the regular season played out like it’s the postseason.

Top teams are playing each other nearly every day, and the results are truly unpredictable.

After Lexington beat Needham via reverse sweep, the Rockets rebounded with a 3-1 win over a Natick squad that had swept them in their first matchup, before blanking Brookline in its backup gym. That’s caused the biggest shakeup in the upper echelon of the Globe’s Top 20 boys’ volleyball poll to date.

The other biggest bounce-back performance of the week belongs to Newton South, which defeated Division 2’s top , Westfield, in five sets, after dropping six of its eight matches this season against teams currently in the Globe poll.

Another key revenge win came at the right time for Milton, sweeping reigning Bay State Herget Division champ Braintree. Cambridge rises greatly after defeating Newton North and continuing its upward trend after dropping its first three matches of the year.
