Jane Lynch and Megan Hilty added to Boston Pops July 4 show
Two big names have been added to the lineup for this summer’s Boston Pops July 4 Fireworks Spectacular.

The Pops revealed on Tuesday thatEmmy- and Golden Globe-winning actress Jane Lynch will serve as the host forthe organization’s annual free concert at the Hatch Shell on the Charles River Esplanade. Tony Award-winning actress Megan Hilty will also join the event’s already star-studded group of performers, whichincludes Lainey Wilson, Chance The Rapper, and Trombone Shorty.
Though Lynch’s most iconic role is, arguably, her portrayal of cheer coach Sue Sylvester in “Glee,” she also recently earned an Emmy nomination for her role as Sazz Pataki in “Only Murders in the Building.” Meanwhile,Hilty’s latest Broadway endeavor was “Death Becomes Her,” where she originated the role of Madeline Ashton and earned a Tony for her performance.
Both Lynch and Hilty are no strangers to theBoston Pops. Hilty previously performed at the Fireworks Spectacular in 2014, while Lynch took the Symphony Hall stage in 2019.
“Our blockbuster lineup for July 4 just got even more spectacular with the addition of Jane Lynch and Megan Hilty,” said Boston Pops conductor Keith Lockhart in a press release. “These are two wonderful artists who we joyfully welcome back after previous collaborations. We can’t wait to see them again at this landmark event in Boston Pops history.”

This year’s Fireworks Spectacular is the premier event from the state-sponsored initiative MA250, which aims to celebrate 250 years of Massachusetts history and the founding of America.
If you’re not able to make it out to the Esplanade July 4, several parts of the event, including the fireworks, will be featured on CNN’s broadcast for the holiday. The telecast will becohosted by Anderson Cooper and Pamela Brown, who will broadcast live from the Esplanade. The entire event will be streamed on CNN All Access and broadcast on WHDH-TV Channel 7 from 7p.m. to9:30 p.m.
Additional performers include Boston Children’s Chorus, Boston Crusaders Drum and Bugle Chorus, Middlesex County Volunteers Drums and Fifes, Tanglewood Festival Chorus, and the USS Constitution Color Guard, who will perform during the patriotic sing-along portion of the evening. The event will also spotlight local artists, including Massachusetts Poet Laureate Regie Gibson and 20-year-old pianist Pelin Su Yavuz.
