On Saturday, he learned about his selection to his second All-Star Game, the first coming in 2024 as a member of the Phillies.

The July 14 Midsummer Classic will be a return to Philadelphia, where he spent eight seasons with the Phillies before signing a five-year, $130 million deal with the Red Sox in the offseason.

“Just something that I’m really proud of — to represent the Boston Red Sox,” Suarez said through an interpreter on Saturday.

“Maybe I’ll be able to get in and play,” Suarez added, referencing the 2024 game, which he did not enter.

Closer Aroldis Chapman was also named to the AL All-Star team. It is his ninth career selection.

Suarez will look to lead the Red Sox to a sweep in the series finale. Here’s a preview.

He joins Cal Ripken of the Baltimore Orioles (17 times) and George Brett of the Kansas City Royals (11 times). … Trout said he should be able to return to the lineup on Tuesday when the Angels begin a six-game road trip, beginning with three against the Texas Rangers. … This will be Ryan Johnson’s first career appearance against the Red Sox.
