Montgomery, who was drafted 12th overall by the Red Sox in 2024 before being sent to Chicago in the trade for Garrett Crochet that December, finished his debut 2 for 5 with three RBIs and the game-winning run.
Montgomery became just the fifth player in MLB history with a walkoff home run in his debut, joining Carlos Perez (2015), Miguel Cabrera (2003), Josh Bard (2002), and Billy Parker (1971), according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
Miguel Vargas launched a two-run shot in the third to begin Chicago’s comeback from a 4-0 deficit against the Braves, who have the best record in the majors at 45-22. Montgomery made it 4-3 with an RBI single in the fourth, and Jacob Gonzalez tied it with a run-scoring single in the seventh.
The second-place White Sox (35-31) moved within a half-game of scuffling Cleveland atop the AL Central.
