The Bishop Feehan lefthander was his typical dominant self Sunday night despite inclement weather, firing five scoreless frames on 85 pitches, striking out 12 and allowing just one hit, leading the No. 2 Shamrocks to an 8-0 win over No. 34 Andover in the first round of the Division 1 tournament.

“I think I pitched well, but it means more that the team [scored] eight runs, got a big win, played good defense, so I’m very pleased with the way the team played, too,” Bumila said.

Bumila was clocked at 98 miles per hour for one strikeout, also hitting 97, 96, and 95 on three occasions for finishing pitches for the Shamrocks (15-6) despite persistent rain. He helped his own cause with a two-run single in the fourth as part of a four-run rally.

The Shamrocks also plated four in the second, with the first five batters of the frame reaching base safely. Eddie Ritchie drove in a pair with a second-inning sacrifice fly and a fourth-inning RBI double.

“Brody did what Brody does,” Bishop Feehan coach Joe Breen said. “Big bunt by Jake Webster, a senior of ours, kind of sparked a big rally, and a couple of hits followed. Next thing you know, we’re up, and anytime we can get a little push into Brody on the mound, we feel pretty good.”

The 6-foot-9-inch ace certainly felt a boost from the run support.

“It was so nice — it kind of cooled me down, calmed me down,” Bumila said. “Went out, shoved well.”

Danny Van Buren was the only player to record a hit off Bumila for the Warriors (11-11) with a fifth-inning single.

Braelon Carrera and Trace Reed finished it out for the Shamrocks to secure the shutout. Andrew Shute added a pair of hits for Bishop Feehan, which will host No. 15 Weymouth in the second round on Wednesday night.
